I was officially laid off this morning at PPD in Richmond. Role was senior scientist. Several others in roles ranging from Senior Scientist to Research scientist were also released.

In the last year, I have seen 3 of the highest management individuals who interviewed me for my position let go. The last was my direct manager who had 20+ years of experience and was perhaps one of the most knowledgeable on site when it comes to science. The TFS management is trying to make us like a manufacturing business which we are definitely not. Time will tell but I feel this will impact future work as sponsors realize they are not getting the personalized treatment they want and deserve. We are all overworked and now have many more projects to manage and run. Retirement could not come sooner.
I’m seeing layoffs within Project Delivery Vaccines too.
Only 2 weeks severance? That’s crazy. The other layoffs last year in CRG was 2 weeks PER YEAR worked.
Guys whoever did the clown emoji, fess up and take one for the team, maybe they'll bring everyone back
Is anyone else considering unionizing after the lay offs yesterday?
PPD was best prior to ThermoFisher buying. I hope those who were let go affect timelines and those around begin to jump ship as well.
One of the people laid off had been there for 15 years. They gave everyone two weeks pay as severance. Meanwhile Marc Casper has a total compensation package of about $19 million. It makes me sick!
We need to organize and strike. We're already overloaded with work and with these layoffs those of us left will have to take on even more work. When do we say enough is enough? We have the power. They can't fill these roles effectively with people off the street. There's a steep learning curve and training required.
Everyone so far has said that bench analysts are fine and it’s only PI/management level (Senior Scientists and above) that need to worry because, “how could TF fire their robots? that would be so stupid?” And yeah, it makes sense… but how do we know that analyst jobs are safe? They fired some damn good people today for no damn good reason. And all that bullcr-p about “trust in us”? As if.
Best decision I made was leaving there in April. I've never seen corporate mismanagement the likes of Thermo Fisher's takeover of PPD. Leon and Harsha are incompetent and never give a straight answer or demonstrated they know the business they are, supposedly, running.
Those affected were fired immediately and are not allowed to do any more work. Hope a bunch of deadlines are missed and thermo fisher sees what a terrible choice this was
It would be interesting if people didn't show up for work tomorrow. Let deadlines get missed and have clients walk away. The only thing TF cares about is $$$
I’m hearing that it was only ICD and VSD and that no one in CSD was laid off (yet)
Hi! What clients were you and those that were fired working with ?
ICD and CSD
As well as people at the associate group leader level all the way up to an associate director. Then they had a site wide meeting where they answered no questions and said another meeting will be happening tomorrow. Everyone is angry.
Do you mind sharing what department? Should we all just find a new job??
