I spent years at Verizon Wireless thinking what other job will allow me to flex, work from home, and pay me a decent amount. This thought process kept me trapped and unhappy.
I decided to take a leap and take the severance because I was increasingly more unhappy. I had a horrible supervisor who wrote me up for adherence but also wrote a nasty comment in my yearly review for not taking on more championship roles. I was promoted and demoted multiple times. Once I was put in a secret trial to receive extra disconnection calls that destroyed my leading metrix but told it didnt drop me to developing so there was nothing that could be done.
I was a great employee never having any attendance issues and often leading.
Taking the severance was scary but I found a job that pays me more, I get to work from home, I can take breaks and lunches as I please, and there is no micromanaging. Since I'm salaried, I can work half a day and leave and still get full days pay. Several of the people who left Verizon also work at this same company and we all can't believe how badly Verizon treated us. I was blind to it until I saw the grass on the other side.
The point is, if you are unhappy, change companies. There are way better options out there that allow more work life balance.
