Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Feeling stuck and overlooked

I've never been more unhappy in my career at Nike than I am now. This just isn't the same place it was a few years ago, let alone a decade or more. It's really sad because it used to be a great place to work. Now, loyalty and talent don't matter. If you're not in the "click," good luck getting a promotion. The fun has been completely su-ked out, and you’re just another number they can cut in their next knee-jerk reaction.

Innovation has lost some of the smartest people year over year, even if they were internally or externally revered, and overlooked internal talent while picking up external stragglers. Doesn't matter what you do from a work or impact perspective, if you don't play nice along with leadership. Nike talks about the rebel spirit and pushing boundaries for the better like Pre, but nah that's the way to get blacklisted for life inside the berm.

I've been here over 20 years, I don't think loyalty or talent has mattered much for the last 10 years. At some point we went on a hiring spree of Ivy League MBA talent focused on strategy and they got promoted much faster than those that did actual work. Based on the last few reorgs, it's also who you know, know what you do or how good you are. I lost my SD in the last reorg and he was one of the few really good leaders in Supply Chain.

Judging by the posts here, we have. Lot of house cleaning to do. Fair well.

Plenty of people got de banded but plenty got promoted too. The new levels happened way before layoffs though, just the reorg was when the titles changed to reflect it.

I mean I just lost out on a role to an internal. There are tons of moves internally right now.

I really wish I had a way to use the laughing emojis for you, @int+1uWLZ1it! Ask for feedback? EVERYONE knows no one is getting promoted. Talent is only coming from the outside in ETW roles IF the managers are ALLOWED to have an open role at all. People are getting titles removed and though no fault of their own. You can’t get feedback because some schmuck is in a back room making decisions based off dollars. You seem like someone very disconnected- probably the person who wrote the comms saying “we gave you goal setting” to help your career aspirations, and we are gonna give you more “tools”. Give me a fricken break.

I feel the same. Been here 11 years, some how survived all those awful reorgs.
Even with a new CEO I have no faith that career movement will be what it was, and am applying on the outside.

It’s easy to focus on the bad and assume worst intentions. Now isn’t the time to ask for more. Now is the time to double down on relationships, hard work, and bringing a sense of excitement to the team you’re working on.

Instead of blaming, try asking for feedback and what you can do to improve if xyz is your goal

A lot of things will change for the better soon. Just gotta wait. Nike will be back to what it once was very soon.
