Question on end of employment

So, I got the boot a few weeks ago (but hey, not because of my performance—let’s be clear on that). My last day’s the 13th, and I’m wondering when I should expect that sweet severance check to hit my account. Anyone have any idea?

Oh, and I’m in the Bay Area—does anyone have tips on how to deal with taxes on this? Because I definitely don’t want to mess that up. Speaking of money, if I have to fly back to WHQ for paperwork, it looks like I’ll be footing the bill for the tickets this time—can I write that off?

On a different note, I’m just shy of five years here. Do you think I can sweet-talk someone into giving me that lifetime employee discount anyway? I mean, it’s close enough, right?

Lastly, I heard my position’s already been backfilled by someone coming back, but I’ve also heard whispers about openings in transformation, reorg, or something along those lines. Oh, and does Nike have any rules against coming back as a consultant?.

Thanks in advance!

If the person has any intellectual property or something of that ilk then you do have to sign additionally. It's in the separation agreement, if they're getting a severance check they more than likely have a separation agreement which in itself HAS TO BE SIGNED. Whether this person is using this as bait or is a reporter why does it matter to you? What do you gain about what there reasoning is ?Like... Im not understanding why you people cape so hard for a corporation? Find a better sense of belonging that's not tied to a corporation where you're literally just a number. Either provide the information or keep it moving. There's nothing 'Keep It Tight' about telling someone about seperation agreements, but you definitely aren't 'Doing The Right Thing'

there is nothing in a layoff that requires in person signing. We have eSignatures for a reason. If I can buy a house without leaving my room, you can certainly be terminated without it

Something about this post is off— seems like bait - not buying it

K went through this myself, the severance check will be taxed before it’s sent . At its appropriate rate . That’s why if you have the leverage you have to fight for higher severance especially with California or Oregon taxes because if your residency has always been California they’ll tax it at that . Nothing on your taxes end you’ll just submit your w2 as normal. when it comes

I will say you should’ve spoken with a lawyer regardless Nike puts some nasty phrases in their agreements depending and the lawyer would’ve advocated that you didn’t have to fly for the paperwork and if so you should be reimbursed at the least you’d be able to get the lawyer to serve as you and sign

After a layoff, there’s a 6month wait time to coming back, at least as an FTE. Unsure what the ETW rules are.
