Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Feeling stuck at work

I’m frustrated and feel like I’m wasting my life here. Does anyone actually enjoy working at Nike anymore? The meetings are pointless, the work is meaningless, and it's all just to make it look like we’re busy. Morale is in the gutter, while the higher-ups continue to rake in millions and don’t care. I’m getting older, and every minute spent here feels like time thrown away.

It sounds like your ego is hurt. Once you realize work is for a paycheck and not meaning you’ll feel better.

Meaning in work? WE SELL SHOES AND CLOTHES TO THE WORLD. All the storytelling and events are BS.

you need to check your ego and figure out WHAT YOU CAN DO IN YOUR DAY.

You are wasting your life at any corporation, you could get hit by a train and it would not matter one bit. Find your calling outside of the way you earn a living

Work is a transactional relationship, time and skills for money. That’s it. Get a hobby or volunteer.

I was laid off in April and while I'm still looking for a job, I'm so much happier. Being pushed aside after over two decades allowed me to see how much Nike expects from you. I was working 50-60 hours a week, the leaders in Asia expected us to be available on Sunday's, and I was happy to do it at the time because I did not know any different. Yes, every company has it's issues and the paycheck is nice, but what's also nice is to be able to have a job that does not become your life and interfere with what should be your time (nights and weekends).

Do you need a safe space or do you want to be an adult and carry forward?

Complaining about not finding meaning in your job on a site dedicated to layoffs is diabolical. Collect the paycheck and sleep well tonight knowing that when you wake up tomorrow you’ll continue to have the means to support yourself.

I think this issue is at a lot of Corporations right now and you’re not alone.
There’s no harm in looking internally or externally.
Try not to let the negativity around you affect your daily work. I know that’s difficult but it may help you in the meantime until you make some decisions.
I’m lucky enough to be on a great team with great bosses but others around me are very unhappy. Been here a long time and have seen many ups and downs at Nike. This shall pass. What’s different this time though is all the external negativity in the world so it will be harder this time indeed.

It’s worth investigating to see what’s out there if you’re feeling this way. Lot of people still really enjoy it, I’d say look both internally and externally, sometimes it just takes something new to change your perspective

It's going to take a looong time for the changes to take effect. Even if we do have the right CEO in place. I give it a year and a half to 2 years until its consistently positive. I currently looking for a new job somewhere else after 12 years with Nike. I'm glad I was here for the good years. Sad to see what happened to this company and brand.

I quit. Much happier today than I was when I worked at Nike. Miss the paychecks obviously, but working there was a big drain on my life.

I think it depends where you are within the company. There’s good, bad, and worse. I’m super thankful to be in a good team with a boss I trust, and great peers around me. Maybe I’m naive but I’m feeling really hopeful with EH coming in. It’s worth it if you can find your people. Good luck to you!

Think about what brings you joy.. it can be anything then find a job where you can do that everyday. Insurance, groceries stores, skills are solid right now… working with animals.. the ymca- I hope you go follow your heart! Everyone is tired of being a number for a corporation

All of these $$$$ companies are sinking and the world is changing. Do what will make you happy everyday!
