Questions about applying and interviewing prior to off payroll date

For some stupid reason, I'm a glutton for punishment and I want to try to stay with the company for now. I've heard several answers on this and I'm really just looking for the right one. My off pay roll date is October 25 and the earliest I can sign the severance agreement is October 11.

  1. Does interviewing for / applying for opportunities remove the eligibility for the severance?
  1. If I sign the severance agreement on October 11 but am a candidate for a position, does that remove my candidacy?

There were RIFs before and after the VSP, the most recent was 9/26. Those people are able to apply internally prior to their off payroll date.

Not to forget there’s a 6-month cool off period: no VZ employment until after 6 months after last day (in the severance). So unless the hiring team has completed assessing all candidates and you are amongst the finalists for consideration (HR has agreed to extend your last day) you will not be able to be considered for employment until after the cool off period.

If you are on the slate for a potential role, let your HR Biz Partner know as they will extend your last day depending on when the selection process ends. I know of people who were extended by a week because the decision would not be final prior to their last day. So sign the form and apply.

You can apply for roles, then sign the severance prior to your last day if nothing happens. Honestly just knowing how long it takes to apply, interview, then get an offer... you don't have enough time. It'll take a minimum of 3-4 weeks from applying. Start getting everything ready for applying outside Verizon.

You can still apply for roles and sign the severance. If you manage to find another role, then the severance becomes null and void and you remain on payroll. So continue to apply, make sure your resume reads well in Workday and also attach a professional looking resume. Also, reach out to the hiring manager as if you are applying externally by sending an email that would replace a cover letter and attach your resume to the email. I would go as far as sending a Slack message to the hiring manager as well. Best of luck!
