Nvidia is about to put the hammer down on Cisco

NVIDIA Spectrum-X : Ethernet on steroids for cloud AI

aka: Cisco Crusher

"Nvidia Hires Top Cisco Inventor for Ultra Ethernet Networking"
"Nvidia joins Ultra Ethernet Consortium"

A fully standards-based Ethernet with support for open Ethernet stacks at cloud scale

Spectrum-X will enable scale of 256 200Gb/s ports connected by a single switch, or 16,000 ports in a two-tier leaf-spine topology to support the growth and expansion of AI clouds while maintaining high levels of performance and minimizing network latency

Partners offering Spectrum-X include Dell, Lenovo and Supermicro

I was laid off in September. I’ll tell you this, Cisco is trying to protect its books and scrambling in today’s economy/tech market. Good luck to Cisco that’s all I got to say.

Fran to enjoy the 100 gig pipe and code load.

Latest market numbers from 650 and others - show in AI networks ANET is #1, NVDA is #2 (large xAI win def helps!), and more names in next 3. CSCO is blended in the 20% "Others" Category. That is all you need to see.

Cisco will rule long as Liz & Fran are around to talk about AI and how training raw data from 100 gig pipes to create LLMs can solve all customer problems . Can’t wait to read the next LinkedIn post by LC, full of nursery fantasies and fairy tale stories about AI.

I hear storytellers are in high demand inside of Cisco these days. Grade 12 minimum. Popcorn time!

Hypershield and Hyperfabric are indeed fully funded projects. Their funding source is HyperLR based.

It wasn't even six months ago when everyone was soiling their diapers over Infiniband being the only technology AI would ever use, complete with a counter reference to NVIDIA being a competitor in the Ethernet space:

Just looking at one of the first search items on Google shows information on Spectrum-X from at least as early as May 2023.

“OP forgot that Cisco is now an AI company with Hypershield and Hyperfabric solutions. The focus is no longer on the traditional routing/switching/security/collaboration”

What is a “Hypershield”?
Is it available now? (The answer is no. It’s a roadmap vaporware product)

Hyperfabric? Same thing.

These are Cisco AI products. How will they support these ? Cisco just gutted TAC
Cisco just laid off a ton of people. Q1 is over in a few short weeks and no one is working because of the horrific LR that left employees wondering if they had a job for 30 days.

and, to add insult to injury, all engineers have been commoditized into a single name.

And PTO has been yanked away

And a huge pay cut for every single employee

You realize “Best place to work” is a purchased marketing strategy. Right?

I believe NVIDIA is a dangerous and strong competitor- Mellanox has good bones and they made 3.7B last quarter. But I really don’t think JPV is going to makes a difference here. Nvidia may win but not because of JPV.

Nvidia doesn’t need anyone from Cisco

Both Dell and HPE are ALREADY deploying this. At scale.

Nvidia Spectrum-x uses both NVIDIA BlueField-3 SuperNIC endpoints working in concert with NVIDIA Spectrum-4 switches, and is particularly enhanced for GPU-to-GPU communications (also known as east-west networking traffic) within the data center environment.

Provides Telemetry-based congestion control, Lossless networking and Dynamic load balancing

First- Ethernet has been standardized for years. Nvidia joining a consortium of hundreds isn’t going to change Ethernet protocols that Cisco wont also benefit from.
Second- GPUs vs ASICs is laughable. A purpose-built ASIC will run circles around a GPU.
3rd. No meaningful person from Cisco wrnt to NVidia. Only a widely laughed at clown 🤡 went there.

Remember when Steve Jobs went to Xerox PARC and literally stole the mouse?

yeah.

Cisco is toast. Nvidia just unleashed a world of hurt.

Cisco was once the leader in ethernet networking and now they are a has been joke.

Routing, Switching, collaboration, security...

Just look at Cisco SD-WAN. Literally Cisco's bread & butter

Gartner puts ALL OF THESE above Cisco:
Fortinet Secure
Versa
Palo Alto Prisma
Aryaka SmartCONNECT
VMWARE (Broadcom) SD-WAN
Aruba EdgeConnect

Cisco has Meraki SDWAN and Catalyst SDWAN(Which literally compete with each other)

what about AI and CLoud?

AI and CLoud
Nvidia, AWS, Microsoft, Google, HPE,

Cloud Networking and Datacenter?
Dell
Arista for cloud networking - Arista focuses on open networking, high-performance, and are much more customer-centric than Cisco

what about wireless, routing and traditional networking
HPE Aruba
Juniper Network
Adtran
Extreme
TPlink

security?
Palo Alto
Fortinet

Collaboration:
Microsoft Teams has dominated Webex. Destroyed it!
Cloudtalk for Business Communications
