Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Interesting

It amazes me that people come here to talk about the problems at GloFo so that it may get better for all of us, and they’re met with disrespect and criticism.

  • The point is simply to acknowledge that pay does not seem competitive so that we may retain talent, which would improve the organization operationally. It takes about two to three years of training for people to even be semi-independent here.
  • The point is to acknowledge that our buying power has decreased every year since the 1950’s, and while corporations still see record profit and have stayed mostly on track with inflation, they try to keep as much of it in their pocket. So where does it trickle down? Inflation has far outpaced workers for a long time.
  • You have the right in this country to organize together so that you have any power at all at the bargaining table when it comes to wages and better treatment.

So why do so many of you just hate your fellow co-workers on here who are actually fighting for you?

It seems that HR and SLT are influencers of this dialogue.

@1owq, don't worry eventually some manager will come to you and ask you to train your replacement in some third world country where they get paid 10-30% of you. Then we will see how you feel then. If you are a US employee at GF you definitely don't have a career in your future. As soon as they can find and train low-cost geo newbies you will be replaced. Doesn't matter how much you know, they don't care, to GF you are nothing more than a monkey doing a task and can be replaced by a cheaper monkey. Your time and end will come in the US, I know the staffing roadmaps, your end is near. You aren't intelligent enough to even realize they won't lay you off directly, they will treat you bad enough you leave on your own, mission accomplished at a much lower cost. Good luck HR troll!!

  1. If other companies are offering better pay, go work there, unless you lack the skills (which you probably do).
  1. Go work at Stewart’s if the pay is the same and the raises are better.

All you complain about how other companies are better. Get off your butt, get another job, quit, and leave this site to layoff rumors, not your daily whining thread. Sad sacks of $h1ts.

GF will give you salary ranges for your band if you ask your manager. Ask where you are in your band and ask who the bands were benchmarked against. What you will find is GF bands are not even created relative to other semiconductor companies, their salaries are 20-30% low in most cases. Everyone that leaves GF gets a better working environment and gets at least a 20% raise, many cases over 50% moving to a lower cost of living area as well. Face it, in the US GF does not want to retain employees. Engineers and technicians are a commodity and can be outsourced according to our least favorite GF exec TB, the guy is a total smuck but he is pulling the strings of his puppet CEO TC. You will never have a career at GF, every month they are trying to find ways to eliminate US employees, face the facts and do yourself a favor and leave this sh*thole company!! I did on my own terms nearly 2 years ago now and it was the best decision I made. Of course, I wasn't able to get any layoff package, but I left on my terms!!

They can't argue with anything other than argumentum ad hominem. There are no datasets that actually agree with them. Every single economic data point shows that we, the working class, are getting absolutely blasted from behind by our corporate benefactors. Let me ask you, person that is so very happy at your position at GF Malta. What do you think the median home cost is for this area and within an hour drive radius?

Would you be suprised to know it is over USD $510,000? Which wage at globalfoundries would provide you with enough money to afford a house of that price? What's the median wage for this area? It's 92,000 a year. You would need north of 100k to put a 20% down payment on a home in this area with a 6.5% interest rate. Please tell me how exactly one would afford this? Rent you say? The median rent for this area is near $3,000. I'll be generous and say you make 100,000 a year here. 50% of your income goes to rent alone. Please explain how without using your feelings or emotions how this makes any long term economic sense? Why are all the C suite execs millionaires now? Why is TC worth nearly half a billion? I gladly await your response

And maybe that’s how you feel in your role, but that’s not how many feel according to glint.

Listen, if you’re happy, why are you on the layoff anyway? Because you’re part of the counter campaign. We all know that, so stop.

Work life balance is above none. I don’t use any sick time and seldom use vacation. We get ample holiday time off. That should be enough.

Better a sad troll than a blind troll who won’t take a look at any of our operational problems or work towards creating a better organization and work/life balance.

It’s not that anyone is saying there are no positives. What we’re saying is we have a couple problems to address. Both things can be true.

The positives at this company outweigh the negatives. Few can even think of negative things. My group all love our job. It is actually a pleasure to work with such a fine team. Most want to put down others here. SAD!!

Or you’re part of GF’s anti-union campaign. However, we’re all smarter than that, and we know what the problems are here.

Look if you can provide proof that we’re not losing our coworkers to our competitors right now, I’ll shut up. But you can’t. You’re probably not a non-exempt employee, but rather in management or HR. You can keep posting here, but no one in the halls or fab actually agrees with you. We all know that because we all talk

I could say the same for you. You’re on here making an immature, elementary argument that I’m a clown without taking any time to substantiate anything instead of doing something valuable or meaningful.

Go spend time with your wife before she leaves your miserable behind.

Well… You’re way off base. I’ve replied a few times because there’s an active conversation going on, which I have proactively responded to.

Other posters here are legitimate. I’m the original poster.

Though doing the homework is not something you’re used to, so I get it.

It’s easier for you to understand nothing and avoid listening to others.

The mark of a clown is someone who doesn’t understand, doesn’t listen to others, doesn’t seek truth, but instead turns a blind eye because it’s easiest.

Amazing how you cut down your fellow co-workers without even knowing their value or situation. These are real concerns. Don’t be so quick to censor it. You are not being a morally good person or showing leadership by silencing others- not for the company, not for your fellow man.

It’s all part of the discourse, baby.

Look we’ve talked about how the retention of talent is a problem. Management fully understands this. Because we’re in cost savings mode, no one is offering respectable counter offers. If you really want to do a disservice to the company, don’t let people talk about these problems. They need to be heard.

Yeah see that’s where you’re absolutely clueless. People are getting awesome offers right now. Go try and see for yourself. I’ll wager that you I’m find more pay and comparable benefits.

GF offers some of the most competitive wages and benefits in their respected area. They offer ample opportunity for those that take advantage of it. Unmotivated trolls cannot win here. Hard workers will prevail!

Seems to me like other tech companies in the immediate area have been extending offers with substantially more pay to everyone. I implore you to look. Maybe that’s what will keep fair pay honest at GF.

Yeah I actually got better pay increases at Ruby Tuesday as a dish washer, and it’s not like I’ve been rated poorly over the years here.

I guess I could’ve stabbed myself on a fork or something, so maybe that’s more dangerous than toxic chemicals.

Driving by Stewart’s daily, who are closing in on Globals starting wage, probably doesn’t help. I’ve heard Stewart’s is also give better end of year raises... I’d be lying if I said the thought that I’m working with pyrophoric chemicals and making less than ice cream scoopers didn’t cross my mind. Risking physical harm to be losing 5% a year to inflation seemed less and less enticing over the years. And don’t get me started on management…
