Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Why not contractor first?

Why don’t they start with contractors? people who become full-time from consulting compromise a huge chunk of paycheck to go full-time for the sake of ‘job security’ . Which in this organization is a myth when budget cuts come full-time employees are the first want to go and mediocre consultants no matter how highly paid they are stay. Can somebody help make sense of this Nonsense

When I contracted I got paid terribly with constant promises that were never fulfilled. I got a new job as a FTE with another company making just less than double what CVS paid, doing the same work. Got a call recently that a position is open and they wanted to know if I was interested. So glad I didn't have a reason to consider it given the state of things now. My heart breaks for all of you, this company needs to get a grip and do better for their people.

Opex vs capex, they need to spend/burn money by end of year.

Fte- means you need to pay health, bonus, etc next year

They can get rid of contractors any time for any reason. They need a mass layoff as a cover to layoff ftes. Firing an fte usually is a long process and you can’t just layoff a
couple fte here and there

Because they pay less than half to contractors compared to FTEs

Thats actually not true, I myself got fear mongered into FT, i went from 100$/hr plus health coverage to 125k and benefits and the bonus is laughable!

They kindly revert back with the needful for a fraction of what it would cost to support the domestic labor market. The capitalist class won't stop until you're reduced to functional slavery.

High shortage of developers in the US. They have to use the talent pool from India.
