People who are affected by lay off , did they get a last date after two months etc or it is immediate effective this week ?

our team member is only 'connected'/doing work through 10/18, but is still a 'colleague' through December - assuming that's the severance?
Like last year it's a future date. That way they don't have to file the warn notice until the layoffs happen. They'll be on til December/January
