Are layoffs happening or not? There is more chatter about it than usual. Way to ruin Sunday, thinking about it and coming here to check if there’s any news.

Re: WARN notices. For the millionth time - if you get laid off today, your last day of work will be in about 3 weeks. Then you will remain employed fully until early December at which point your employment ends and severance begins. The 3 week lead time allows for the WARN notice to not be filed until a few weeks from now. By the time you see WARN notices on your state’s website, you already will have known if you were included
If there are no WARN notice and they require 60 days advance notice, how are we having layoffs next week?
Will all of you who keep posting things like “They’re not happening,” or “ignore the rumors” come back to this site with a big mea culpa later this week?
Yes, they are happening this upcoming week. Managers have been given a window of 09/30-10/02 to have the discussions and present separtion/severance documents to colleagues whose job are impacted.
I have a one-on-one meeting with my director scheduled for Tuesday, 10/01/2024 for career planning discussion. Typically, these meetings last 30 minutes, but this one is unusually set for just 15 minutes. I suspect that an HR representative will join a few seconds before the meeting starts. My director will likely read from a script for 5-6 minutes, ask if I have any questions, and then conclude the meeting in less than the scheduled 15 minutes.
If traditional layoffs are happening this week, then probably will be 2 additional months since there have not been any significant WARN notices submitted (Connecticut, Illinois, Rhode Island).
Do we think that we are gonna get the same deal as last August, meaning on the “books” until December?

Notifications will start happening tomorrow. KL sending a broad email about it tomorrow morning. Original notification dates were 10/1-3 but they opened it up to Monday 9/30 as many leaders were concerned about making people come to the office T/W/Th and doing these on site. Leaders have through Thursday EOD to complete notifications.
