Even though you are going above and beyond to get things done, there is no job security and layoff anxiety lingers. Would you talk about it with your manager or director about it or just stfu, work and go home
?.

My immediate manager in AppSec is the usual clueless hire.
He knows nothing about anything.
Yup. Hiring in my group. Preferred location only and we are laying off at the same time
As a manager, historically I have been told about layoffs literally 2 hours before we were allowed to tell the employees. But I am low/mid-level manager. I am sure the hire-ups know well in advance.
How long is this mandatory training two days?
Here is the thing about layoffs. There are multiple efforts going on. Efficiency and location strategy.
A manager can literally be hiring new employees due to work load and get told he/she has to let someone go because of location strategy.
The left hand doesn’t talk to the right hand here at WF.
My immediate mgr knew….but he was going on PTO and wanted to make the call to me… he made a big deal about his postponed plans in our team meetings leading up to the fateful Tuesday —that should have been a red flag . He knew all along what was going on.
Managers can be real.a$$holes -especially you SF!!
depending on how far down the chain your manager is most are likely the last to know and only know within a couple weeks to give them enough time to do the mandatory training.
Managers know if they aren’t on the list to go themselves. They can’t say anything though.
Managers are highly trained and know everything about any topic.
@zay that's how upper management keeps bottom management in line.
Do the latter because more likely than not they do not know the former.
All managers sometimes have direct input (give us a name(s)), sometimes they do not. I have seen both over the past 3 years and it has been steadily trending to zero input.
No, my manager doesn't seem to know anything, and that's not even their fault... but lower level managers in general seem to have very little control over anything anymore and are out of the loop almost as much as the rank and file.
