Master inventor here (i.e. loads of patents). Yeah. That's a thing. But we keep patenting stuff because our salaries su-k and it's one of the few ways to boost your income here. The funny thing is that we've gutted so much of our IP teams that long term, this strategy isn't going to work eventually... but IBM does have a pretty big tail of patents.
