Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Why was Arvind made CEO?

Seriously who picked him? Ginni? What major accomplishments did he have at IBM before he was made CEO? I sure cannot think of any. The guy was invisible.

@dgd+1uBIMZvn - I remember when the announcement was made. Like most IBMers my initial reaction was "who the he-l is Arv......" then checked Wikipedia and LinkedIn and there was nothing. It was in the days after the announcement that those "thin" bios on both sites were created by IBM PR. He came out of nowhere. And the initial assumption was he was a temporary caretaker CEO until Whitehurst was ready. Yet here we are.

If AK wasn’t Indian he would never had been selected to be CEO; because the board needed an Indian to offshore high paying jobs to India; this is the result of IBM not innovating anymore and becoming irrelevant

I was honestly shocked to discover that Arvind had never worked anywhere else but IBM.

I can think of only 2 CEOs of IBM that worked anywhere else. Lou Gertsner and the 1st CEO, Thomas J. Watson.

I was honestly shocked to discover that Arvind had never worked anywhere else but IBM. His wikipedia bio is SO THIN. He joined IBM while in grad school and even spent the bulk of career at IBM in one place: IBM Research. The man is a barnacle. I don't know what IBM was smoking to elevate a guy who had almost no professional experience outside of IBM and didn't even venture beyond IBM's offices in Westchester his entire career, to the C-Suite in the 21st century. He's like an IBM virgin that they found in the bowels of Yorktown Heights and made CEO.

No, IBM became patent troll. http://techrights.org/n/2024/09/17/IBM_is_Acting_No_Better_Than_Patent_Trolls_Preying_on_Smaller_C.shtml

As the imbecile Indian IBM CEO knows, no one is forced to buy IBM mainframes, software or services. There are always alternatives and it's a free market out there. Certainly wouldn't recommend AI, quantum or any thing else from IBM. Let's see if India is going to provide a sustainable market for IBM in the long term. India is a dump (even though others might say otherwise) and not going to improve anytime soon. Alvind will be selling more IBM business units to the likes of HCL for pennies on the dollar eventually, just like he did for the IBM middleware. His roadmap is to crash and burn the company and he made it happen big time in 2024. One heck of a winning strategy.

What's he gonna do next ? Threaten everyone with lawsuits for not buying his cr-p ?

No, not only transform American jobs, but global jobs to India.
It's going to ruin this 100 year old company, as we'll all see very soon.

They needed an Indian to help transition American jobs to India: that’s why

Oh wait. He was partly responsible for the Red Hat acquisition where IBM paid a premium. IBM acquired all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Red Hat for USD 190 per share in cash, representing a total equity value of approximately USD 34 billion at a 63% premium to the stock's closing price. Wonder what payback timeframe will be for the Red Hat acquisition?
