Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

As expected, people have been selected for layoffs randomly

That is, with the exception that in the vast majority of cases single criteria was a bottom line, or how much they cost Cisco. It didn’t matter that their value for the company far exceeded the actual compensation they were receiving. Cheap labor is the only thing corporations care about. Quality, experience, skills, workplace culture, functioning of the teams, leadership skills, capacity for innovation and creative thinking, problem-solving skills - none of the above matter. On a personal level, it’s definitely a burden.

I've lost fellow Cisco employees to accidents, su1c1d3s, health issues, etc...

The unseen harm of mental health impact is real. Cisco is not a healthy place. The aggressive layoff culture breeds toxicity that brings out the worst in people.

As more time grows between you and the LR, you’ll realize you are strong AF to have survived.

Its just brutal math. Sales Champion = Overachieved = High Commission payout = expensive to keep. Perverse as it sounds, if you want to cut costs, you cut people. Want to cut costs most effectively, cut your high-performers. It also happens to be death-spiral thinking, but who ever said the billionaires on the ELT had brains or gave a rats about you?!?

It's not random! Age and stock options play a big factor, as well as which ELT will look after you to protect you. It's a horrible approach, but that is what Cisco get away with. We don't care about people, unless you kiss up to an ELT. It is all about money, not people!

The hardest thing is realizing you did everything right, yet still lost.... :(

I've lost fellow Cisco employees to accidents, su1c1d3s, health issues, etc... The same goes for family and friends. Experiencing these doesn't make being laid off su-k any less, but if one reflects on it one starts to see the meaning behind platitudes like taking time to smell the roses.

Nothing is random. It is a well planned, strategical selection. The reason could be whatever, but absolutely NOT RANDOM.

Yup, I got sales champion and had my trip booked already to San Diego in October. They laid me off and then canceled my trip.
