Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Culture now vs early 2023?

I was displaced in Jan 2023 and it was getting pretty ugly then but judging by comments now, seems even rougher. Ppl just seem so angry and defensive, blaming this person or smearing that person. Its the Truist/Suntrust culture thats the issue, not the people. The employees still there should support each other bc management will make you fire your friend and smear them or you are fired.

Having been with Truist (hBBT) for a long time, the culture has slowly eroded over the years. Leading up to and after the merger it's taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Bill has no charisma and repeats the same soulless purpose speech. Most of the "big bank" people brought in for senior roles are bringing in the cr-ppy culture they claim they're escaping (not to mention the lack of promoting from within harms morale). It's a matter of time before we have Wells Fargo-like issues based on behaviors I've seen (sure, just "report a concern" and it will be solved!). If Bill looked at the engagement scores he'd realize this isn't working and huge changes are needed if Truist is to be saved. Frankly, it doesn't seem Bill is capable of turning the culture around and is only seeking a big retirement payout like Kelly did.

Clients are PI---D OFF on the changes with the bank. Client needed a bank account closed. Bank teller said they didn’t have access to it. Comes back to me. I have to reach out another Wealth teammate to find out how to do it, write down the steps, go back to the bank side and walk the teller through it.

Teller just assumed that he couldn’t do it to a CHECKING ACCOUNT. When I came back with client, he finally asked someone who showed him what to do. I understand we all have alot of processes to remember (and changes all the time, but how about take the initiative and ask for help if you don’t know how to do something. Instead our client is ticked off and I’m ticked off because it makes us look incompetent.

@1bjd+1u9L3Lxa All that was before the Suntrust evil empire took everything over. Kelly King LIED to BB&T employees that it was a MOE. He lied telling his S&S employees that the technology was going to be better. It isn’t. It is much, much worse. Joe Thompson thought he was the big man and stood in the way (this is proven) of ANYTHING to improve those in the Wealth division. Now he is gone and those trying to improve things are chasing after it. They should have left the existing Wealth processes in place. Instead they threw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater and are now trying to re-create what we had. Kelly King lied. So did Bill Rogers. Wouldn’t it have been interesting to know what they talked about over a drink of how things really were going to go down…..

The culture is in shambles, much like what remains of Rogers reputation.

There is no culture, it’s just a job.

“ It’s the people there’s lots of dead weight that needs to be dumped”…..yes and they are all at the top and getting millions in bonuses and living their own personal “purpose & mission”.

Things are way better and get better every day - recommend moving on for those stuck in the negative all the time thinking you will be in a better place

The backwards, and over-engineered processes is what flabbergasts me.

You have bureaucrats trying to justify work for themselves. When in reality, they weigh everyone down and classify everything as a risk. And, everyone is afraid to speak up and say anything because the SunTruist culture doesn’t embrace that.

This results in the bank having insufficient resources to prioritize true significant risks.

I suspect this is likely why our employee data was breached, and why I’m getting constant phishing texts and emails with my name and personal information referenced. They probably didn’t complete the proper due diligence on a third party who had our data, because the team the team that performs the assessments is backlogged and not prioritizing their efforts based on what is an actual risk.

I am not saying it is the worst place ever, but IMO things were better in 2020/21. At the start of the pandemic the way teammates were treated and respected was a breath of fresh air. You had management really asking how you were doing and trying to help maintain a good quality of life / work life balance.

Anytime you have something like Project Star the morale is going to take a hit, however after this occurred nothing was done to try and lift people up after seeing many co-workers get laid off. You saw a ton of folks get laid off, that work then get shifted to the remaining and our processes and procedures still remain in a constant state of change so it all starts to weigh you down. With all of this you fully understand why you have seen a mass exodus of high quality teammates and poor engagement scores.

So now you have less employees doing more work with poor policies and procedures. On top of that you are pushing RTO which limits flexibility which every survey I saw teammates rated as the most important thing outside of salary.
