I had it all lined up. Had a union rep ready to help and everything. In the end everyone was too afraid to sign the card. So I ended up dropping the whole thing.
The only thing that can beat down bullies like frank are bigger meaner fighters. If any one of us was big enough to take on frank, we wouldn't be working for him. But if we group up, we can take him down.
BTW -- yes, unions take a bite out of your pay for dues, but union workers generally get paid more than non-union, so probably a good trade.
I normally recoil at the thought of unions, but the relentless overtime many endure does give me pause. I have a friend who works for the state and he said people must clock out at eight hours on the dot. Five minutes over and you're in trouble. Anything over 40 a week had to be approved WAY up the ladder. By "clock out", that means "Get lost. No work for you until tomorrow morning."
The kicker for me was that was that he got paid or received comp time for business travel if he did so outside of normal hours. I cannot even begin to wrap my head around working in a culture like that.
Unions have their issues, though, such as taking a chunk of your paycheck. Then, of course, there's just the very good chance they'll move everything they can overseas.
Bring in the union if someone has the backbone to champion the effort! This is push lil frankie...
