The hypocrisy of offshoring

I've always found it interesting how politicians tend to focus on foreigners "stealing our jobs" in the US, but conveniently overlook the fact that US companies can freely lay off American workers and outsource those jobs to other countries. It's like they have a blind spot when it comes to criticizing the wealthy and would rather target struggling individuals just trying to make ends meet.

“Leadership” may call offshoring whatever it likes to satisfy its greed and to serve its private equity masters.

This is simple exploitation of developing nations’ workforce and a complete lack of respect to employees here.

Be honest with employees here; quit stringing us along and leave.

Greetings,

The Leadership Team makes decisions that align with a long-term strategic plan that is designed to help navigate change within our core business markets. What some refer to as 'offshoring' is the company responding to changes in emerging global markets.

Cengage is a global company committed to conducting business in a fair and responsible manner. Adding jobs in developing markets strengthens our company. We embrace change, manage disruption, and ask, 'Why not?' has brought forth new and innovative initiatives such as Project Horizon and Cengage Unlimited, which has been proven to be an unmitigated success.

Cengage's short-term balance sheet has improved dramatically over the past eight quarters and continues to show strength and growth due to cost-management issues, a realocation of global resources, and responding to our customer needs.

Full Stop!

Offshoring is one of the main reasons why Trump won the rust belt and was elected in 2016. However, when politicians and pundits talk about offshoring, its usually within the context of manufacturing. White collar jobs going overseas just doesn't rate as much even though it is equally devastating. Probably because its not as dramatic as an entire factory shutting down. A few dozen jobs here and there going to India just isn't going to get the same coverage as a Ford plant shutting down while the production goes to Mexico.

While the response below is accurate, and I agree with it, it was clearly written by AI. I hate living in an AI world.

While it's true that US companies outsourcing jobs to other countries is a significant issue, it's overly simplistic to suggest that politicians solely focus on foreigners 'stealing our jobs' while ignoring corporate outsourcing. Many politicians have proposed and implemented policies aimed at incentivizing companies to keep jobs in the US, such as tax breaks for domestic hiring and investments in workforce development programs.

Moreover, the issue of illegal immigration and job competition is complex. Some argue that undocumented immigrants take jobs that American citizens won't do, while others contend that they depress wages and displace vulnerable workers.

Rather than pitting two separate issues against each other, perhaps we should address both simultaneously:

  1. Hold companies accountable for outsourcing and incentivize domestic job creation.
  2. Implement comprehensive immigration reform, ensuring a fair and legal pathway for immigrants while protecting American workers' interests.

By acknowledging the nuances of both issues, we can work towards solutions that benefit all stakeholders involved.

"Umm. It’s called the free market."

You're missing the point entirely.
