HR cut after doing the dirty work

Imagine having to deliver the bad news to employees across the business, dealing with their tears and anger while trying to do the shittiest part of your job. Then you get tapped on the shoulder and told you’re done.

This place is dark. Anyone staying, you owe them nothing - take care you and only you. Be prepared.

The same people whose job it is to protect the company, and its executives, from lawsuits. I've shared enough elevators with young women with tears in their eyes, and I have none to spare for HR.

I don't understand people who blame HR for the RIFs. HR people are just workers like the rest of us trying to do their functions. It's not their fault that the company is doing layoffs, and they don't to decide who get cut and who get left behind. They are just doing their job function and many of them get cut as well after they complete the unpleasant duties like what OP said. I do sympathize with HR team as much as I do with the rest of the team.

HR in general is all about hiring and firing... I can't understand how anyone would want to work in that kinda department. Giving the kinda bad news they have to give all the time...

I feel more for the business managers that had to deal with that. More emotion letting go of their good people and then they get the ax. Hard to feel bad for HR
