You could say the same thing about people in-office as well. The only difference is the PR spin and the timing. Other than moving to I&P there's nothing you can do to stop what's coming.
“If you are remote YOU WILL BE displaced. It's only a matter of time. They are doing it in waves.”
It’s getting kind of comical as the same thing comes up several times this week. I’m not sure why anyone remote is questioning if it will happen. It WILL. When is the only question. It may be 8/20 or it may be 2027.
If they ever do it's incredibly rare exceptions. I follow the remote headcount and 99 days out of 100 it goes down or stays static. It's a stupid strategy, but that's pretty much all HY does so it shouldn't shock anyone.
They are still hiring people as remote. Why?
Aww, look. A jealous southerner.
@wlt depends on your view of what constitutes an issue.
Specific to our team, India was there to handle the peak load which falls on Saturday and Sunday in India. It wasn't an issue for the past decade but now they want their weekends off. It doesn't matter that the applications they support are against making changes during the business week since impacts and service availability are less important than their weekends.
WF gave them the jobs, then started treating them as higher priority workers, now WF will get to deal with their increased worker demands. It's only a matter of time until corps start shopping for the next bargain bin tech country and India becomes a former tech hub.
I know of two people in tech, in HUB locations, who were displaced in the last few weeks.
LS was not the reason, no one is safe.
I was wondering when I&P will start resisting odd work shifts. Is it really an issue now?
@jhd 11 years of working remotely with 5+ years of being told I'm in a targeted group. Then the scripted call earlier this year saying I may be affected by location strategy in Q3. You'll understand my skepticism, particularly after the last round of cuts made me effectively irreplaceable since nobody on either side of the pond wants my hours (including me but it pays well and my manager allows me lots of flexibility).
Contrast that with our India staff now fighting to work normal Indian business hours and days rather than cover US hours. They have also shifted resources away from our busiest times and are not nearly as dedicated to working extra to keep the bank running as we are. This executive team has severely miscalculated what they can buy with the pennies they are willing to spend.
Our US staff will stay and ensure the work gets done, India staff DGAF.

You might be surprised. I have co-workers who thought they were going to get laidoff 2 years ago, but they are still here.
Good luck OP!
