Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Posting my experience for those looking for jobs

There is a lot of negative narrative out there saying it is a terrible job market, that they know people who have been unemployed for a year now, and that Nike pays way better than others so here is my experience:
I quit Nike 2 months ago on my own terms because it was affecting my mental health. I just signed my offer yesterday and my start date will be in 3 weeks.
In these 2 months, I applied ro 265 jobs, got interview from 22 of them, made it to final round of interviews for 3 of them. Got 2 offer and declined one and accepted the other.
Grade 40 at Nike and my pay was 140K. I was in Tech.
New job pays 170k and 10k for relocation.

Seconding those comparing European salaries to US, not comparable. You must remember healthcare and social safety nets for Us don’t exist when we are older, healthcare costs are insane in the U.S. and can be 10k+ per month if you need help/assisted living. Also housing costs and interest rates are different, as is transport and access to good quality food. We do not have the same level of assurance, gov support, or quality of life, hence the higher salaries, and generally end up saving much less than our European counterparts

@1cks+1tvaP4Xe I paste the job description in chatgbt and ask it to assume the role of a career coach and the paste my cover letter and ask it to modify so it will include keywords. Then modify it a couple of times by hand and then check it with jobscan to make sure my resume is passed by ATS. I also used chatgbt to make decision between two job offers!

What are you using chatgpt for OP? Resume and cover letter generation?

Silly that we have to use these tools but hey

Folks, do not listen to the negative narrative. If there is a person telling you they have applied to 1000 jobs, they have all the skills, blah blah and yet unemployed, it may not quite reflect the job market (sure it is a tough market) but there may be an issue with then as well from not presenting well during interview or not willing to take an offer below certain value or not willing to relocate or wanting only certain roles... Keep looking , keep pushing, there are better opportunities out there. There are jobs and one will be for you

Going to chime in here to say I left the company In March after three months of searching starting in January (I proactively found a new job because I was worried about layoffs). I applied to about 275 jobs, interviewed with 22, final interviews at 4, 2 offers and picked the better one. I got a $50k bump in pay and a better bonus % that isn't dependent on shareholder value, better health benefits, better work/life balance and overall better day-to-day work culture. I didn't realize how bad Nike was until I left and started working around happy people again. I've learned more in the last few months at my new job than I did in my entire 5 years at Nike and now have leadership that engages me and has me excited about my career again. There ARE better jobs out there, I promise. They're hard to find, and you'll have to put in a ton of time and energy into interviewing, but you will find something and be happier in the end I promise!

Congrats OP! I am still looking after being laid off in Feb and feeling pretty discouraged. I've had many, many interviews and have made it to the final round several times. I have to stay in the Portland area or get a remote job due to my spouse's work + our kids in school. Hoping to find something soon!

Worked in GT as well.

Took me 3 weeks to find a job after phase ii layoff. Not saying to brag about it, but to encourage you all to look outside.

Making more cash and not having to deal with DA and MD. So far, it is being refreshing.

Where is EHQ?

All those benefits (like state pension, cheaper health care, relatively cheap education etc) are paid by the government (ie 50% income tax on our salaries) and not by nike. So the wages in the regional HQ’s are definitely way out of balance vs WHQ. A 140k salary is maybe what you can earn as principal / grade 45 at EHQ.

To those comparing WHQ and EHQ comps, I worked in both. Working EHQ means you can live in leafy Hilversum, cycle to work, live and walk around safely + your state pension awaits you, along with access to healthcare, high-quality free education if you have kids (the list goes on). Those comparisons based on salary alone rarely work.

Level 35 at 170k? No…

Hmmm I’m lvl 35 in tech with 170k, plus Nike’s relocation package and signing bonus was insane, even better than Amazon’s. Sounds like they were lowballing you?
I have been interviewing elsewhere because I need to leave for personal reasons. So far everything else is either lower or around the same pay range but at a much more expensive area (Bay area, nyc etc). This is definitely the most challenging market I have seen, but glad you were able to get something good!

140k is insane

At EHQ the total comp for grade 40 is around 100k
