Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

This place is a swamp

I got a job more than a year ago. I wanted to add some experience, learn new skills, and fatten up my resume. I’ve been running in one spot this whole time instead. Team is horrid, lead even worse. Now I’m thinking about completely abandoning the idea of having a career in the banking sector. Question for my more experienced colleagues: is it like this in other banks, or is it just this one that is so bad?

Truist was the worst job offer I ever accepted, having a much better experience at WF.

I think Truist is the worst bank in the industry. Others are ran better. In my experience stay away from the big banks but the big ones aren’t nearly as horrid as Truist. Truist is a sinking ship due to failed leadership.

All large banks are the same. Don’t let this cr-p get you down. I was talking to someone who recently joined from WF who was ecstatic to be out of there. If you get lucky you can sometimes be in a good situation. Good luck to all (other then the avp weirdo)

Really depends on what your job is. All banks are not the same, especially in the way they gather, service, and treat customers. Mergers often create voids in culture, direction, leadership, and simple routines, and that’s what happened here. But the fact that KK would be CEO until a defined date and then BR would take over was the signal there would in effect be TWO conversions instead of just one, and Truist is only now going through the second one. In that context, one year in your new role isn’t long enough to determine a fit, and you might like your same job at a different bank (this is true for me). My 2 cents is give it more time and look critically at whether it’s really what you’re doing or where you’re doing it that is the issue. In that void lies opportunity.

If you don’t think you are being effective at your job, I have an easy solution. Leave. You will find out that the other large banks are the same. And contrary to one poster, BB&T was a solid company with an excellent reputation. Sadly, Kelly King, Bill Rogers and Truist has destroyed that.

Same. Just treading water with nothing direction. They’ve gotta be trying to sell this pig.

Three year life expectancy at BB&T. I imagine Truist is even shorter.

BB&T was a solid place to work. It was a good place to learn and thrive. Truist has no culture. It’s like the Wild West. Missions are unclear and fickle. Clients don’t matter.
