Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VSP - Age discrimination?

Verizon's VSP situation is messed up. My boss is telling us not to take it, but they're telling older employees and those close to retirement to go for it. They even admitted this in a one-on-one. If they stay back then they will be chopped off in next round.
Isn't this basically age discrimination? Feels ethically wrong.
Anyone else experienced this? What do you think?

Yup targeted at older employees but cover their tracks using consultants and throwing in a few young ones. There is life after though and a nice time to chill post prison break.

VZ is going to be leaner and with only people who bleed mcdonald’s mustard and ketchup one way or the other.

there is lots of talk about more layoffs if they don't get the numbers they need.

Significant age and race discrimination going on at VZ since 2018. Since 2018 what percentage of RIFs were Indians? 0? What percentage of new hires were Indian? 90+. What percentage of promotions were Indian? 90+?

.....maybe they will miss you..this time.....

OR maybe you end up with the work of 3 people. Don't think it won't happen.

Well, it might not be a fake post, but it's definitely right there in the paperwork that NO ONE should try to convince you to either go or stay. If managers ARE doing that, they could end up being in a world of hurt if it can be proven.

The VSP is nothing more to get people to leave that are near retirement...or folks who do not want to RTO.

Say your 60 something and saved a bit - leave or be kicked to the curb and they can label as mentioned as "talent refresh". Its complete BS.

Remember last time they offered the VSP? First the re-badge to infosys, then VSP, then had to offer same deal to Infosys people. They are a little smarter this time....offer the VSP, then do what they want after...."you had your chance".......

You might think that your safe after the VSP....nah...maybe nothing this year..who knows, roll the dice? HCL is well integrated with Verizon...keep that in mind...they rolled over like 6k in the beginning of the year outside of the US to HCL...

You have to ask yourself...do you repeatably want to worry twice a year if you have a position or not? or you make your own decision leave. You could also, kick back and watch the fireworks...maybe they will miss you..this time. Its a gamble in this company either way.

The big thing for most is the medical...do your homework.

Against company policy you say? Sounds like a challenge.

One of the leaders called it a talent refresh. Take that as you will.

You will be signing a binding release agreement to receive your payout declaring that you VOLUNTARY decided to accept the offer. BTW it was offered to new/old employees

FAKE POST,
it is against company policy and prohibit managers to persuade or suggest workers to take VSP
It is 100% personal decision and manager are urged to stay away from giving opinion one way or the other

Of course the VSP is targeted at older workers. That's the whole point. If they have a RIF targeting older workers, they would (rightly) be sued. So they make it voluntary and sweeten the pot to push out people close to retirement. You didn't think they were doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, did you?
