Thread regarding CVS layoffs

When?

We all know they're happening, but when do we think they will be announced/will occur? I'm an engineer and I'm terrified both for myself and my team. We are constantly stretched thin especially my lead devs

You'll be asked to justify your existence (subtly, like "what projects are you working and whats their status?" and opinion on remote work.

If you're smart.... ask round to other managers / leads. If you dont think highly of your leads, they sure as he-l probably think less highly of you.

Before any big layoff, some horse trading is done above by the way higher ups as they're tasked with designing the post layoff landscape. You want to be in that conversation as someone that is useful and worth keeping.

who would lose severance? 1 month per year worked, 10k per annum for Engineers!

Companies are in desperate need of engineering talent. Is the main reason for not leaving a desire for severance money? That would probably be replaced by a better package at the new firm. The days of loyalty are long gone.

I also suspect an announcement on, or just before, August 7th. That is the date of the second quarter earnings call with investors. They will likely want to counter any bad news with something like, "we'll plan to reduce expenses by making targeted cuts in non-essential, non-customer facing areas". Last year they were able to announce $600M of savings by laying off 5k workers on that same earnings call. It helps them look like they have a viable plan to save money.

Well remember we are all meat and don't do nothing but take money from the Boards pockets $7.25 an hour is just too much. Everyone should be destitute living in prison work camps and die by 29. Only the Boards get to live it's called survival of the fittest.

Word on this board is that Engineers have nothing to worry about. Perpetual WFH along with bonuses and raises. Also hear they get free Netflix and Hotstar accounts for the boredom. Cheers!

Probably will be announced around August 7th again.
Karen scheduled a meeting for all managers of people at end of July
Probably tell everyone how we all have to dig in and pull together ...then they fire people and make life harder for everyone while she and her SVP all rake in large amounts of cash with options and bonuses. The rest of us need to enter the government cheese line
