Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Quiet quitting Agile

We can all agree this was tech induced fomo performative nonsense and move on now, right? I’m assuming that the fact we NEVER here about from the C suite anymore means they understand it doesn’t work and we should get back to our lives.

CHPDP was a reasonable model for our industry. Like anything, it was gamed in ways that were counter productive, but the focus on long term progression toward “decision gates” was much better than a focus on short-term sprints and micro-management that is Agile.

I was told that Agile was brought in as everyone hated CHPDP. If everyone hates Agile then, what is the option for planning and executing projects? I'm not in love with either but it seems like people will complain about anything just complain.

Got a good friend at one of the consulting firms working on IT, and agile contractors (scrum lords and coaches) are about to be eliminated in the next couple week or so. What is on the table is eliminating the useless RTEs, including employees. Something that should have happened in 2020.

Like a shiny new thing it was adopted only to be abandoned once the novelty wore off. Classic management process lifecycle.

Agile was just a way for IT people who were about to be laid off to stick around as product owners, scrum masters, and agile champions. Non-value adding system and roles.

Agile was SR's way of "keeping watch" on all the kids once the Boomers left in 2020. CHPDP with a fancy West Coast name.

I love that no one bothered to notice that tech companies tend to chaotic sh-t shows, with completely different performances criteria than things in the physical world - not to mention they are rarely cash flow positive or sit on preposterous mountains of money where roi isn’t a concern. The fact anyone thought this was adaptable, or even useful, is completely laughable.

Yes, Agile was a complete waste of time and a major distraction. A short-term, micro-management focus for technical, long-term, capital-intensive projects should have been recognized as a huge mistake before it was even proposed (let alone adapted). I am sure all the Agile campaigns have now been heavily rewarded by our myopic management for their magnificent contributions and departed to work their magic at new companies so that we can now put all this nonsense behind us and get back to finding some oil!

It was trendy in 2020, and like so many Chevron impulsive notions, it has run its course. We're due for another kooky project management process any time now.
