Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

@1aid typical Nike - destroying your self confidence while making you thank for having a job there.

As others said: make leaving Nike your number one and only priority. You and your mental health are much more important than a company that stopped caring about its people a while ago.

What I consider a good leader: someone with a strategy and priorities, with time to develop, grow and communicate with the team, that understands both their domains and also the business, who can work cross functionally to help with roadblocks and sponsorship.

I could bring many examples and situations, but the thread will be deleted.

But you will be surprised how much GT lacks basic leadership.

I talked to an old teammate who left a few years back. Best decision and never looked back, now earns like 5x what they paid here.

So what I’m reading here is there is ZERO good leadership in GT? None? Anywhere? Seems never positive word about anyone in that org.

@1aid+1thDjTpA I have been in your shoes before and let me tell you if you have gone on disability due to stress and you are still sticking around, you are signing up for a life time damage to your mental health. Do not do it! It's not worth it. Start looking for job NOW. Get out asap. I was too scared to leave and rather put up with BS and I am still suffering years later.

I was expected to operate 4 levels above my pay grade, ended up with a disability from the stress, and they demoted me during the reorg. When I was trying to make a decision to stay or go, they promised me up and down that it wasn’t performance related and that they would help me get a new role at my previous level. They asked me to trust them to make it right and trust that things will get better. So I did. Haven’t heard a peep from my VP or HR since. Believe me, I’m grateful to have a job, but so disappointed that I trusted them so easily. I so badly wanted this to work. Nike was my dream job, but it has been nothing but an absolute nightmare that has damaged my career trajectory and ki-led my confidence. A part of me wishes I would have taken the severance package because I feel so underutilized and embarrassed in my new role.

Hey @jus, OP here. Still living in PDX, role is remote - HQ is on the Midwest.

This speech of “remote work is hurting us” is just a fallacy from a failing leadership team that has no clue about what is happening on the industry and do not really want people from different backgrounds at the company (despite what DEI says, Nike is very inside out, internally focused. Any outsider is walked out the door quickly).

You all got this! As I said: use Nike for what is worth: as a few lines in your resume and a professional past you are NOT going to miss.

Congrats OP! I got laid off in February and am still looking. Have made it to the final round of several jobs but no offers so far. Something will stick eventually!

Regardless, I'm happy and much less stressed not to be at Nike. My department was a dumpster fire before the layoffs and I doubt they improve anything.

Just left for another brand, I’ve been checking back in to do the same. Additionally I kept a written list of all the things I experienced at Nike just in case I start to ask myself “what if?”

Congrats OP! Happy for your I have been applying and I am finishing interview with a cool company. Pay would be more but it needs relocation. Did you end up relocating or were you able to find something in PDX?
