Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Layoff News Only?

Any chance we could get a thread that is just centered around what people have heard about layoffs? As a fully remote employee, I hear very little in terms of rumors and would appreciate any insight that is floating around. I lost 25% of my team to layoffs last year.

I asked several times a few months back before I and 90% of my team got left go. Just wanted any info and people were very hesitant. Not sure why.

@rql+1tZ8PWR9 you sound like one of the several “higher ups” I’ve met that let the title go right to your head and treat your “lower downs” like mo--ns that are incapable of seeing the big picture when they most absolutely could.

Prob is the lower downs might have skillsets but could be in a role that doesn’t need those skill sets and the higher ups don’t value it like the lower downs.

The lower downs also might not realize that there are multiple different groups or teams trying to do the same thing or doing something in direct conflict of another group or team that the higher ups value more.

Higher ups certainly can’t keep up with all that’s happening in the weeds but those in the weeds don’t have the organizational perspective from above to be fully aware of groups competing against each other.

Neither is a fault of the lower guys just a reality of what happens in very large orgs over time.

Prob is the higher ups don’t have a clue what we do or our skill set

Karen is no martyr, she created this mess and thinks we're all to d-mb to recognize it.

Agreed, seeing budgets for 24 and 25, there are reductions happening but generally those reductions will effect firstly consultants and contractors.

I am in the call center side but not on phones. I create schedules for the agents etc so I am curious if anyone from our team will be cut.

The department I work in will not have any layoffs. They have reduced headcount by eliminating consultants and moved some to a different department. I cannot reveal what department I work in but it is one that has recently been restructured.

Last I checked, there are 30k openings right now. Granted a decent number is in retail but how about closing down a few thousand of the postings for starters. That easily gets you a serious chunk of savings.

@upo+1tZ8PWR9 Please confirm where you heard that 7,000 to 9,000 corporate roles will be eliminated. Did you hear this directly or is this just based on a post you read on this website?

There will be cuts but it won't be what's going around on the board.
It will be something like 5-10% eliminated and bring back hire 2.5-5% upskilled. If you are good at what you do, have a good reputation (not a troublemaker and/or hard to work with, have no as your standard answer...) and have a good relationship with your leader you likely have zero to worry about.

Also, this 2 billion in save over 4 years is nothing new either... KL, brought it up publicly, so people so are focused on it.

What I have heard is 7k to 9k corporate positions will be eliminated. This excludes customer service and call center. Hopefully, Karen will address it at the town hall today.

No direct news of layoffs yet, but the stage is set. Pay close attention to the company town hall today and read between the lines if needed.

There was a $2 billion cost savings plan over the next several years mentioned on the earnings call, but no specifics were given. In my area there is a hiring freeze without SVP approval, as well as a cut back on travel/meals. In general capital investment has been cut back for '25 and leadership is looking for revenue generating/cost savings opportunities. There is only so many of those to be found and executed on quickly enough, $2 billion is a big number. Where else will they look to cut costs when the highest cost for a company is employees?

We haven't heard anything yet. We have several positions open that they're not going to backfill. Hopefully this will count for our team and we don't see layoffs.
