Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Predicting stock price one year from now

What do you think—can Nike bounce back? Personally, I’m skeptical. I don't believe we have the right leadership in place, and I think that will become clear over the next year. We might see some progress as we refocus on winning and sports, and there’ll be some cool marketing as we shift spending back to brand marketing instead of digital (which has been a huge waste of money). But I doubt we'll see the same groundbreaking results we’ve seen in the past. The stock might rise to $80-$100, but that’s still over 40% below its all-time high. Unless there’s a radical overhaul of the executive team and a few layers below, I don’t see it happening. I’m betting this recovery will be long and drawn out, and it could take years to replace poor leaders with good ones—if it ever happens at all. I recommend you all be prepared to have the resilience to work under these circumstances. Prioritize your health, family, friends, and team. Life is too short after all.

Remember, employees who joined Intel 20 years ago who received compensation in stock options are STILL underwater. Stock price appreciation is never guaranteed. Large companies love giving options instead of cash because it’s essentially free for them and transfers all risk to employees. When it comes to stock based compensation anyone thinking the next ten to fifteen years will be like the last ten to fifteen years is going to be sorely disappointed. Options will essentially be like compensation you never received. Devilishly smart of Nike, really.

90 to 100 per share is about what Wall Street expects. If we can get more retail distribution and new product that is feasible.
Don’t expect 150 any time soon. We need to show sales growth. Right now bar has been set low.

Definitely agree it’s going to be a loooong time before the stock recovers. If they don’t make significant changes with leadership, I don’t think anyone trusts the current team to do things so vastly different.

Let’a await the Q1 earnings call first next month. JD spoke a lot about ‘summer of sports’, I’m curious whether all the investments were worthwhile and therefore will be reflected in the share prices.
