An example would be if one group under a VP or Senior Director that was offered the VSP and did not meet their goals, they would then RIF others in their work group that were not offered the VSP?

RIF planned in my GTS group for the teams that did not meet the 15% Target set by Shankar.its not a huge number( about 3%) . RIF planned in Sep post 9/13 with roll off date of Oct. most of those are really people who they wanted to take VSP but did not. Aka “ talent refresh”
They've talked about changing the RIFF severance for the last 15+years..... and have had plenty of downtime to make it happen. You really think they are going to scramble, and change it now at the last minute? Esp when the Unions know it will soon affect them as well, and they have more bargaining power than management???
to confirm what the other guy said, rif and rebadge is planned and underway as we speak. vz is trying for 1 week per year served, but legal isn't done with that process yet so it's not set in stone.
in my neck of the woods, we saw about 12% take rate on vsp, so (I'm guessing) that at least 30% of those offered the package and didn't take it will be rif later this year.
management has told us they want to rebadge anyone who doesn't have critical infrastructure knowledge, including at director level. this means the remaining 70% will become employees of a contracting company)(with one year guaranteed employment), but no longer any golden cuffs. for anyone approaching 17 years of service, you will ultimately be working a year at the contracting firm that you could have gotten up front with the vsp.

There are RIFs nearly every monrth but most are small and isolated. So a rif in Aug/Sept for a few folks? Why not. A big one for the holidays per the norm? Probably even more certain.
Does anyone think a re org could be on the books for the end of August in 3 weeks? Then 30 day RIF notice on the payroll and off by Oct 1 ? New organization ready for 4th quarter ?
Nah. Thursday before Thanksgiving is the usual RIF date.
Very Doubtful in August- They will still probably be working on the VSP issues and working on the RE-ORG. The RIFS will be the Normal year end Octoberfest / RIFMAS criteria. August is too soon with the VSP Happening. Now if you in a group that the VSP did not get offered may be a different story.
