Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Big Wave of ETW Layoffs Coming

Nike's procurement team has been reaching out to ETW companies, including mine. They informed us that they are conducting a cross-business review of all ETWs to ensure alignment with Nike's strategic priorities, though they couldn't clearly articulate what those priorities are. It appears they plan to cut ETWs that aren't aligned and reorganize others in typical Nike fashion. In my 20 years in the industry, I've never seen such a poorly thought-out initiative.

If you’re an etw on the fence about leaving, I’d leave now while you have a choice.

If the etw su-ks, drop them, enough said, I see bad etw's all the time, I see bad full-time employees all the time. Also, in the past, I've seen good etw's. I still see good full-timers too.

the real issue is, for whatever reason, good people leave and bad people stay. I think that...and I'm not sure, but I think, at least, the good etw's have a shot at full time, but then they will just leave anyway after a year once they 'convert' (or whatever they call it these days) ....so ya....

I still don't know what most people do, I think there is a lot of bloat, or just a lot of people that still don't do much.....my 2 cents...

I will say that the general work ethic in coorp amer'ca su-ks, and that is across the board from fresh out of school to senior directors. Not all, but most...more than 10 years ago, that is for sure, without a doubt for sure.

The key to getting converted from ETW to FTE is to make your manager and manager’s manager like you. Don’t mid curve this and confuse it with working hard or making an impact.

As a black badge who survived layoffs and have zero structure or clarity about my roles and responsibilities, I am applying to new jobs 24/7. Can't imagine being an ETW and show up to Nike everyday focusing on anything but applying to new jobs. I have 3 ETWs on my team. I do not even bother asking them for work because at this point, there is no point expecting them to get anything done other than looking after their own best interest and finding new jobs

Why would you expect them to be able to clearly articulate the strategic priorities? From my experience after April, the black badges that remain are still waiting to understand what the priorities are and how the reorg has actually helped. Unless of course you count having more work and losing some of the really good talent in my org as helping?

My company got the same notification. They couldn’t even explain how they were going to do it. They also didn’t seem to care that you can’t just move people into roles they have no background in.

We are preparing for a bloodbath.

Sr DIr here. Yes, It is true and it was planned from March actually. We were asked to keep it low key and quiet but I informed a few of ETWs around myself and two of them found other jobs already.
