I just can’t stand hearing that cr-p anymore. Corporations are cold, soulless entities serving the top and shareholders’ bottom line. We are expendable items. If we are family, social workers and psychiatrists would have their hands full. Can we stop pretending that corporations have any but pure self-interest driven human relations characterized by antisocial behavior? Can we, the employees, finally start behaving accordingly?

You are a valuable part of the company ecosystem, until you are not.
It's useful for employers to frame your relationship with them as being 'part of the family'. You will work hard for your family. You will sacrifice for your family. You will put your family's needs ahead of your own. When they tell you you are 'part of the family', it is a brilliant reframe because it motivates you to give them more for less.
Don't fall for it. You are trading your time and talents for money - nothing more, nothing less. You are 100% expendable. When they no longer need you, they will throw you away like old underwear. If you fall for the you-are-part-of-the-family manipulation, you are more likely to be psychologically devasted when they toss you off the cliff. Don't give them that power.
