Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

How to deal with mockery at workplace?

Listen, I get it. Things are tough and Nike leaders have made several bad decisions and not really done anything to show they care. But does it warrant for teammates to be mocking their leaders in front of the whole team? There are 2-3 of them of roll their eyes are our leader, chuckle under their breath, it is so obvious and I find it so toxic and mean. This isn’t supposed to be high school. Where is civility and basic maturity. As bad as our leaders are, teammates are just as worse! Instead of trying to make things better or confronting them when they’re not, everyone’s resorting to passive aggressive behavior. Each one of us is responsible for this plight of Nike - all of you!!!!

This sadly has been the environment for a long time and not tied to the layoffs. Why is it ok? Why don’t peers hold each other accountable and call out this behavior as being unacceptable? It’s the Movie Mean Girls playing out in Nike campus. People need to grow up and try being kind versus being mean and rude. Leaders have hand tied behind backs with the threat of offending anyone so they run to ER. It’s a broken system by those who know and relish in working it.

“The layoffs got the wrong people “
Most accurate statement on this entire site.
Nike lacks true leaders. Leadership is a skill and Nike doesn’t select or train people to a point that ensures effective leaders capable of gaining their reports’ trust. Most managers are encouraged to manage up, not down.
I’m not sure what you do in the face of unit moral and the decay but I can ensure you that injecting toxic positivity won’t be effect. Perhaps engage them on their POV?!
My leadership in innovation is a joke- and still is. They are not only world class hiney kissers but also really really profoundly poorly educated. And I don’t just mean book smart, these folks are culturally stupid and an insult to everything the maxims stood for. I’ve seen women and men of all different skin colors and walks of life behaving like mo--ns- and allowed to act like mo--ns because of their position. Nobody should hide their disappointment in bad leadership.

This is what happens when people feel powerless. When leadership buries employee surveys because they are so negative versus taking action, when leaders point blank tell you your opinions don’t matter while defending failed strategies out of ego , when toxic leaders insulate their friends regardless of results and layoff great people, etc etc the list goes on….people who need a job and stay for a paycheck will let their frustrations out one way or another. They feel powerless

They are like that because the ones who tried to talk to management were shown the door. You and your teammates deserve a leader that isn't worthy to mocked. The culture of the team is directly related to management style of its leaders.

Yep. This is already being downvoted by these children. Many of these folks are so lost, they’re not worth the effort to change unfortunately. The layoffs got the wrong people.
