Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Cult Mentality

Worked at Nike for 15 years and then laid off in 21’ for no apparent performance reason. Management was apologetic and according to them was it out of their hands despite going to bat for what they believed the category and function needed. In my final meeting my boss cried and promised she got me the best severance package available usually reserved for exec level. A year later we shared a dinner where she again cried and now having been laid off herself was losing her sanity over the employees careers that she felt personally responsible for disrupting for no apparent reason or benefit other than directive from HR who understood nothing about the business she felt personally responsible for. Hindsight can provide more clarity and in my case after feeling my hard work and dedication were disregarded as a personal reflection of my skill set I reached out for help and was lucky to connect with a great psychologist who has helped me see just how much of a cult mentality Nike requires of its employees. All the indicators are there for you to look at yourself and I hope sharing this can help anyone struggling with their mental health wether current or ex employee. For me the post employment journey has been life changing and I’d never go back and change anything. Revelations are real y’all I trust you will choose to do the right thing for yourselves. Best of luck.

Exactly.. Nike has a cult culture. I have seen Senior employees who come to work and count how many swoosh they have collectively between their shoes, pants , and shirts and some even have a swoosh tattoo! Nike is a corporate like any other corporate .....I have been with Nike 4 years and all I have spent is 50 bucks for a pair of shoe I wear out of respect when I go to work. That is all I have spent on Nike gears...

nike couples good marketing with a third world sweatshop
the third world sweatshop is becoming more expensive
how do you market to people that have no common culture anymore

  • > no reason to buy nike's expensive cr-p

save your money for healthcare
