For all the talk on this forum about other departments/functions, there never seems to be discussions on how design is performing or holding up.
From what I can see and the interactions I have had they seem to be in a world of pain too with people leaving constantly and are a team that doesn't seem to have the trust of its leadership.
The same people in leadership for a long time, just seem to rotate around every few years.
Attrition is high, moral is low, talent wants to leave!!!

They get paid a cr-p-ton more than other roles at Nike, a clearly large number of them work maybe 2 days a week and brag about using AI in their process then deliver stale product .....they are the ones who should've been canned....
Design was sold down the pike to the likes of Jeanne Jackson at the hands of John Hoke III a long time ago. Now it's Heidi O'Neil drilling down to sketch sessions. What next? Sessions with John D? It's insane. At the end of the day, DESIGN is Nike's bread and butter. Even if you have the best marketing, sales, merchandising, fulfillment, IT, etc. if you have cr-p product that nobody cares about, none of that matters. The day Nike returns to sustainable growth will be the day that Design is given back their place at the table. Design is not a service, they are the engine.
I worked in a design function that worked on the same CSR deck for 4 years in a row with no results 🤣
Accurate. We are asked to push the envelope, innovate and think outside the box, so we do…then it all gets scrapped in reviews for the type of stuff you see hitting the marketplace.
Obviously not much - you see the product? 😂
What part of Nike Design? Speaking for product design in tech the vibe su-ks right now. We don’t work on anything that will be released and we’re always asked to do hurry up deck work for the VP. Apparently we are supposed to do our own UX research with our own money now after the research group left during the reorg? A lot of the fun people have left, which makes the job feel pretty bland.
What is the pain the team is suffering?
