Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Your experience with LFW?

Since many of us are literally waiting to be laid off, I guess you, guys, are looking into other options. How are you faring? I’ve been searching for a job for 3 months now, not everything looks as dire as others comment. I wonder if things will get worse with the coming waves of layoffs across the tech sector all the way into autumn. I’ve been diligently sending my resume to all places I think are worthwhile, and got to several interviews. Some offers included better pay and benefits than I have here. Fortunately, two best ones are very recent, and I still have time to decide if I’ll take either and just quit here.

“ If your not getting hired or promoted, it's gotta be DEI. Can't be any other reason.”

Thanks for noticing because, people with my credentials and experience used to be at the head of the line. Instead of merit, they went with a redhead because they are underrepresented, too many other hair colors. I just made an appointment to get my hair dyed red, appears that’s what it takes this week.

If your not getting hired or promoted, it's gotta be DEI. Can't be any other reason.

It is so tough out there for demographically challenged people that their posts are even routinely deleted here for pointing it out. You are being un-personed. I recommend changing your name to sound more politically favorable and sending out the same resumes if you are not getting any responses.

“ You need to leverage a network of contacts to help you get out of that pile of resumes that never even get read“

Why would people downvote this? Do you have no idea how people get hired? That is exactly how people get hired.

OP said have time to decide….

How long are these 2 offers going to wait on you to decide?

If you have worked at T for more than 20 years, seeking entry level opportunities will likely be your best option.

Seriously, does no one have a network of contacts?

Every time someone on here is lamenting about their difficulty finding a job they describe it as sending out resumes and waiting for call backs.

That is no way to land a job. You will struggle with that methodology in any job market.

You need to leverage a network of contacts to help you get out of that pile of resumes that never even get read.

Exactly, DEI is still going strong. But remember the old saying "It is better to look for a job while you are still employed"

T isn’t a serious company.
I’ve heard from a couple people that they got turned down at companies they had referrals for BECAUSE they were a former T employee (tech jobs, FAANG doesn’t respect T it’s a legacy joke - makes devs laugh)

That being said, project work and experience is more important and there are skilled developers here, problem is everyone knows management is F-tier and are afraid you’re going to bring bad T practices into a company that makes real money and is actually serious about software.

Market is really bad though, hopefully once they cut rates things improve and lots of us can go tell Stankey to shove it.

“Looking for work. I was hoping, over time to get promoted to the c-suite”

For starters, you better be able to score high on the “dark triad” scale.

Looking for work. I was hoping, over time to get promoted to the c-suite and get a compensation package similar to others. I haven’t been able to find exactly what bonuses and raises the top officer’s have received over the last few years, anyone privy to that information?

Waiting for the layoff and severance. Not looking yet. Worry about a job later.

A listing of long term employment at AT&T is often viewed in a negative light.
