Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Why are people afraid to take the full 6 month maternity/paternity leave?

Why don't people ever take the full 6 months of paid leave to be with their family? They are entitled to it, but people seem pressured to only utilize a few weeks of it at most.

Are people too afraid upper management will try and use this to determine how "layoff-able" an employee is? If this is the case, it really reflects something inherently fu---d up with our company and culture.

One reason people don’t take the time off is that they CAN’T AFFORD IT. It’s not paid time off. FMLA is just the option to take 12 weeks off, and the law states that you can’t be fired for taking that time off.

Some peoples’ own ego probably wouldn’t allow them to take that much time off because they think they are too important and their identity/ego is more tied to their job/salary than to their family.

Entitled? Damn when any of my kids were born (now teens and up) I was lucky to get 3 days off. 2 weeks is plenty unless their are issues from birth with the child or mother. Now get back to work marshmallow.

If you can be gone for 6 months, you are unnecessary.

I took 6 months and enjoyed every bit of that time bonding with my child. I thank God for that time, while others were telling me to go get a 1nd job SMH
I'm like, no this time is to spend with your child and help your wife.

3 months leave should be absolutely mandatory at any job, 6 is.great and 9-12.months would be a dream

Ivory tower speeches. It is politically correct to agree with you all. Small and medium size businesses this is not a thing. There are more of them than HPE. This is your world but no one else is living in it.

I took the 6 mths with no issue. Your job is only protected for 12 weeks as you're on FMLA for the first 3 months. The balance of the time you are then subject to WFRs. Take the time off... don't leave money on the table.

You're always next in line for WFR. Might as well take it.

I don't see it. I've had 4 teammates take advantage of parental leave. They all took 6 months off. One of them twice in 3 years. No problem for management that I can see.

Yes, that's exactly it. The six months is just for show as management will resist allowing anyone take that much time off. What if you take the time off and they decide then that you're next in line for a WFR?
