Retention payment?

Did anyone receive a retention payment today? I get my paycheck a day early through my bank and the line item on my paycheck says retention payment. I have no announcement or notice it as receiving this

My response was not to the OP but the comment regarding the company growing. The CEO is literally tanking the company OR preparing to sell it. It's absolutely not growing. It's wild to think otherwise and honestly gross to have retention payments. I have survived a layoff and while it was awful, I would have felt worse if my friends were laid off and I got their pay. Better than the executives getting it, but still. One of the compliance VPs was laid off in the last round, so I suppose that's a start; however, that man never should have been a VP in the first place. One of the most unintelligent people I have ever worked with, should've been let go when he was a director. That place is full of AMEX and Intuit id--ts now.

To be clear, I am grateful for the money but still have not received any sort of notice from my manager or anyone else on why or how I received this or if there are any terms of the payment. It was literally deposited into my bank account without my knowledge.

I got one the other day as well in addition to a pay increase. The money they saved from early layoffs are being redistributed amongst remaining employees by means of bonus pay, wage increase, etc... Employment is at an all-time high across the nation and the company is growing at a fast rate. Being in the office makes it easy to look more productive as well and you can make the time pass by quicker by hanging out with your friends. In a large company, your success is how good of a talker you are and how much connections you have in the company. The amount of work you output doesn't matter, which is why those who talk a lot are always climb up the ladder.

I didn’t. Is it a bonus on top of your regular pay?
