Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Read the room

I have seen this a few times this week… not to mention it’s always HR ppl getting promoted. Now might not be the best time to brag about your new promotion at Nike while every other post is someone being laid off. Glad they could shift that budget over to you

@6geb your response really hit home. The self promotion is nauseating. Many of these people stepped all over others to secure these promotions. They kissed the right a$$ and used their colleagues for personal advancement. I am so disgusted by Nike HR.

Promotion, Lateral Move - doesn't really matter. It's tone deaf to the many colleagues that lost their jobs or were demoted. Does it really matter if you wait 3 or 4 months to announce your new role? Do you need to announce your new role at all? Do you need all those 'congrats!' replies that much? What is wrong with you???
I hear lots of complaining by those that weren't let go about how hard things are with morale so low and the ambiguity of new responsibilities. Meanwhile there are tons of people who are in a far worse situation. They lost their job through no fault of their own. Many have entire families dependent on their income. Imagine the stress they are going through. The loss. The feeling of rejection.
Show compassion. Reach out. Be kind. Be supportive. Focus on those who are in a worse situation. Don't abandon them. Do. The. Right. Thing.
Layoffs are part of life. But when accompanied with compassion and support, anyone can make it through.
The arrogance, ego and selfishness at Nike is at the core of the company decline. Somewhere along the line - 'do the right thing' - died.

Or demotion of a job title change without a pay cut. DEI+Nepotism is at its finest. The layoffs are about cutting the cost = No accountability. Laughable.

It really does not matter if the promotion is just a title change without pay, blah blah blah if you are making a special post about it on LinkedIn you are tone deaf. Celebrate with your friends, family, boss, remaining coworkers, etc etc. and spare us your need for ego boost via post likes.

Literally came here to say this. Super cool to lose your job and then watch your headcount go to someone who’s bragging about the promotion. Classless.

@2eme+1szgTo45 Well said. Exactly. Nike gives us more jobs labeled as promotion. How many of these people have got more than 10% raise because of these "promotions"? At the end of the day, Nike cuts you off when it needs regardless of the title! Try to enjoy your day to day paycheck and put minimal effort to get the job done.

Most of what you are seeing are not promotions. There were very few promotions in all of this. Most of the “new roles” are people absorbing additional work and lateral moves and trying to make the best of it.

Do people who typically get jobs after reorgs should not announce or celebrate them getting the job. Just curious if people getting hired after layoffs should also take the cautious approach?

Based on the responses… I think we should never announce we’re getting a job and not celebrate at all.

I assume many of these people deserve these promotions, but others did not. Like most orgs, a fair number of them got promoted because they took credit for other people work, back stabbed and su-ked up to senior leaders.

@xnb+1szgTo45 This is a terrible take. If you’ve been promoted to a position of leadership, especially one managing others, you should have the humility to read the room. You’re not important. Your team and how they feel is. This is behavior which is fundamental to leadership. Who the fu-k is going to want to follow someone who’s focused on their own wins while others are suffering?

LinkedIn is a great site to post on if you want everyone to know you are absolutely insufferable

Don’t worry lots of demotions and rifs in HR. Someone has to be promoted.

Why should I have to make myself smaller or not celebrate my wins?

Yes the Swoosh is a mess. That should not mean black badges have to stay quiet about professional achievements. Promotions are a tool to help us all get out and on to our life after Nike.
