Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

And Then There Were None

Not enough people left for big layoffs so of course the many small "baby" layoffs will have to do. Schwab has been callously laying off left and right with no regards to who will be unlocking the front door in the morning or closing up at night. The "baby" layoff will be a bunch of smaller ones where HR will have to be more conscientious of making sure that at least one or two people will be left so Schwab will look like it is still open for business. Similar to 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie.

Perfectly said, @adxd+1skkxRO1.

Any one can be on PIP. If you have a target on your back, it's not hard to track and nit-pick everything you do to find something you did wrong and then put you on PIP. Your manager will go through every single word in your email and go through your drawers every night or super early in the morning before you come in to accuse you of not putting away your papers properly, etc. Once you are on PIP, it's game over. It's ridiculous but take solace that Karma will take care of them.

I suggest you take pictures of your emails and your desk every night so they cannot plant sh*t on you. If you want to go the extra mile, put a hidden cam on your desk and watch them go through your desk. Can be quite entertaining.

They kept the low performers on my colleague’s team and got rid of the high performers. Performance didn’t matter in the last layoff.

Which department and project any hint you can give?

I saw what a lot of people here are saying about entire departments being laid off. My Manager, VP and I (and some others) were all laid off. It was weird and seemed very random.

Half right.

HR does not pick victims. I mean the fortunate ones.

But they do coordinate on performance plans. If you’re on one and likely to quit or be fired with defendable issues you are less likely to get a package. If the CM or WL are weak, and you have protected class issues, you will more likely get laid off.

And, yes, department pulls are likely. We’ve seen this before and then the department is resurrected years later.

We are fat. But we won’t change processes or change drain bammaged executives who think leadership is an ignored survey. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.

HR is not calling the shots on who will be laid off, the business will. HR will advise on laws and regulations.

Most likely, you will see entire departments being wiped out. That way you do not have to justify individual lay-offs, and it reduces legal liabilities.

So, contrary to what you think, there will probably be even less "handpicking" than before. Unless you are already on a PIP of course.
