Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Is it just me?

STS announces that post TG we will have a baby layoff. You know, so long and thanks for all the fish.

I’m tired of saying it’s business as if that makes it ok. Walt has been on LinkedIn congratulating new hires and transitioning interns. That’s great. But we really couldn’t take experienced staff who made TD happen with overtime and sacrifice and reassign them? We couldn’t bring in some new staff while keeping existing? We couldn’t ask for volunteers to take the package so the burden was less harmful?

Not enough people left for big layoffs so of course the many small "baby" layoffs will have to do. Schwab has been callously laying off left and right with no regards to who will be unlocking the front door in the morning or closing up at night. The "baby" layoff will be a bunch of smaller ones where HR will have to be more conscientious of making sure that at least one or two people will be left so Schwab will look like it is still open for business. Similar to 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie.

After the May TG is done, it will start.

I think a good estimate of the scope of the layoff is the number of people still involved in transition projects. When their projects are closed down, they will either be laid off, or knocking someone else out, taking their role.

That is just common sense.

Picture this, you’re on a giant boat with Menace at the helm and Says as his first mate. You really want to stay on this boat?

I don’t want to be on the same planet.

More then STS , tools need trimming of fat.
They have lot of duplicate work, Inexpensive tool and Costly migration.
Which is pretty clear like many other failed migration , Schwab will have carry 2 tools ,2 teams and 2 times cost of same work.
Then they will find scape goat to sacrifice there corporate over loads.

It may be the last and the smallest but this is the most lucrative group. Those developers and product people on TOS all have hefty retention bonuses, so they know that if/when they get laid off, they will be fine…

I hope all of you who keep saying you want to be laid off are!

Thank you! I was in October and come here to try and help others, particularly with the seemingly popular constructive discharge practices.

Life outside is much healthier. Menace isn’t in my life, nor Tiny or Says. I don’t have to hear about cost cutting (which causes us to spend more) or yet another public cloud strategy or tool.

We lost our way long ago. And with the practice of getting rid of anyone with enough moxie to raise their hand to help the firm, well, nothing left to do but give the EC another bonus and raise.

What happens to teams doing duplicate work they need to be re-asigned or laid off. Sad but its business as usual. Start interviewing people. The music is about to stop.

Baby = small

That this was unclear to some is scary.

If DEI is forefront of your thought process you might be a racist.

Actually, no.

You are a racist.

Nobody called it a "baby layoff", baby as used here is another word for small. That being said, I hope it's large enough to include individuals that assume it happened due to DEI. Get over yourself.

I don’t think anyone called it a baby layoff. Someone in a previous post used the term “baby weight”, for what I interpret to mean the weight the company gained for the TD integration. Weight it will need to lose via layoffs.

What the heck is a baby layoff? Are they coming up with terms to make layoffs sound better? If anything it actually sounds worse since it sounds like they are laying off babies.

99% of those being laid off were probably already notified back in November. Stop worrying about it and focus on your day. If you don’t like your job quit and move on.

Question is how much the baby weight?
What is percentage over all?
Because each team will have its own baby and its weight.

Not being callous, but after next TG this really is to be expected. You have staff that are no longer needed, redudancy, and so forth. I know thats anxiety for those folks, but from a bigger picture perspective, this is just reality that happens after a merger.

Yes there’ll be TG related smaller layoffs, we all heard that. Guess most got numb to it. It’s just part of life now.
