JD & MM, zoom isn’t the culprit, RTO isn’t the answer. Psychological safety is the key to innovation. Nike’s culture is toxic and Retaliatory. There is so much fear and distrust, how can we innovate? Please create an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing ideas, taking risks, and learning from mistakes.

It makes me so sad. I feel like i can't trust anyone. There are so many leaders right now who are trying prove their value. They want on the information and need to prepped for meetings etc, but doesn't feel like the people doing the work are getting the credit.
I left when I realized my boss was being nice to my face and not advocating for me when I wasn’t in the room. This is how I had 3 direct reports with growing headcount, yet I sat in a cube while I had male peers with no direct reports occupying offices. The HR lady (part-time) sat 1 afternoon in the other extra office. I sat in there with her when I gave my exit interview pointing out that I was the only director with staff and no office. Also, I didn’t get paid anywhere near the same, which I realized when I found my male predecessors pay statement. This all happened while my boss pushed me to pay more to my team with his excess 2x pay money. That should have gone to me, as I didn’t make the defined minimum salary for my role.
No one took time to make sure the entire team was being paid correctly; the info is there - it’s math. No one takes accountability and when the company finally in 2018 leveled everyone up to their minimum, I guess Nike thought they they just “did it” oh how awesome. Now I am a 20+ year veteran making the MINIMUM f you!
Here is how some of my male managers sugar coated the lack of pay logic and while HR upheld a long practice of pegging pay to past salary. Look for phrases such as, “I once had a promotion where I didn’t get a raise, it happens” and “oh, we do make a good salary, so we have to watch to take care of the younger generation by giving them a bump towards the top of the pay scale.” Lastly, and my favorite, “at some point in your career you will have someone working for you that makes more money than you do.”
Nike is a mess. I am sure it still is underpaying women and men. Think about it: for the people like me who were leveled up to the minimum- is that all our collective experience and talent is worth? The f-ing minimum?
The well is poisoned beyond repair. Every person for themselves, find the right as* to kiss or risk being laid off in the next round. Don’t bother with your day to day work, find the best ideas and take credit for them as your own. Step on your team if they get in the way, throw them under the bus whenever possible. It’s the new world order.
This! Yes. This is what is lacking from Nike. Psychological safety and emotional trust. 😢 We do not want Thursday thirst or Unplugg of fancy offsite....We do not want free coffee or goat petting... we want to feel safe around leaders and managers
This. People live in fear. They fear retaliation. The worst part is so many people have risen to senior Director and VP by stealing other peoples work and ideas.
