Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Return to office announcement expected this week

The long circulating rumors appear to be true regarding a return to office. Expected announcement this week. Any idea on what this policy actually looks like? Any word on employees hired as remote with no office within 100+ miles?

Many of us want this new CEO to get sacked ASAP.

So PayPal has officially enabled the return to office, Tues to Thurs globally effective from October 2024. There are a few caveats, the radius is 48km/30mi. If you are not tagged to a site, you would be considered a virtual worker and remain as so.

Yes I think that's a great idea - I miss my team in Ireland!

It was announced earlier today that the company is looking into changing "how we work". They are considering the possibility of moving away from working fully remotely to a more hybrid system.

Yeah, I don’t think the work from office is going to be an issue considering a cr-p ton of North American. US workers were just laid off last week. They got rid of all of the “supervisors” or ICA is what we called it and Team lead’s in Chandler, Arizona and Omaha Nebraska gone in one swoop. I imagine the rest of the front line agents in the US are going to be downsized very soon. You get a new CEO and he gets rid of all the American workers except the bigwigs that they’re bringing in that one was just hired May 15.

I wouldn't put much stock in this. They have downsized their real estate significantly and the places that have a physical location cannot house the number of employees in the area. While there are banks forcing this in 2024, it would cost a significant amount and the new leadership wants to spend less.

Where are people even going to work? Didn't they sell all the buildings too? Joke of a company.

Hybrid I think. May only apply to people within 1 hours commute to their nearest office

Has anybody heard if it would it be hybrid or full M-F in office? Would there be any kind of severance for being unable to return to office? What about relocation reimbursements? Timeline (by the end of the month or end of the year?) Ahhhh...I know people may not have the answers but this could be very disruptive so I'm trying my best to get ahead of it.

They want staff to walk without a package of money via layoffs... They will use this as a driver to get rid of people.

Bottom line is they won't care where you live or what your conditions are if they say office they will make it happen..!

One of the big managers had a meeting when they arrived at the company last year and they were focused on office return for the next 18 months. This was confirmed by my department manager who was on the meeting, debated back but....?
