Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What is Nike policy on a second job, part time job?

My wife is unable to work and I am the bread winner for our family of 5 now. I can't and don't want to risk it with having Nike as our only source of income considering how they have treated people. I have been offered a part time job for weekends. It is basically designing some PCB board for a small electronic company unrelated to Nike. Is there any policy to prevent me working that part time job? I am working on site at WHQ for Nike Monday thru Friday.

You can take the weekend job as long as it does not involve Nike vendors or customers and you disclose it through the COI Disclosure tool. The Ethics and Compliance team can assist you with Disclosure questions and process. The submission will go to your manager and functional VP. They will approve it and it will cover you if the second employment comes up in any background screens. The Ethics & Compliance team can also advocate for you if your manager or functional VP have questions or concerns. I suggest Disclosing it because it is not against the COI policy, but if your second employment comes up in periodic background checks, it may be grounds for termination for failure to disclose.

I'd keep it to yourself. Don't give your manager or colleagues any reason to say that you aren't delivering on your obligations. Not to say that you won't, but it would be too easy for them to use against you if needed.

Also, everyone should be able to have a side hustle. It's perfectly OK for execs to be on boards of other companies so you should be able to have something on the side as well. I say this like it would be acceptable and fair, but we all know that life isn't fair.

And please don’t use your company computer for any external work! I know that goes without saying but some people don’t think!!

Check the conflict of interest policy. It’s online somewhere. It lays out the rules. You can also speak to someone in the Ethics and Compliance Office if you need guidance.

Not at all, what you do in your free time is of no concern to Nike unless you are violating the non-compete and even then f-c* Nike. We have all just witnessed how they treated all of us, watch out for you & your family because Nike sure the f-c* won’t.
