Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Moving outside radius to avoid RTO?

Several people on my team were changed to telecommute when they moved outside the radius our division set for having to return for the 3 days last year (30 miles). In talking with them, there’s been no downside..their pay and band geo code was not lowered and we got the same raise percent (which really means they got a bigger raise because they dont commute or pay for parking). Im thinking of doing the same when my lease is up.

Does anyone know of any HR or other policies or checks that would cause a problem? Has anyone else done this and can share advice or experience? There’s no bigger chance of layoff if you’re remote, right?

Before someone says just quit and look for a remote job, sure but why when I’m happy on my team and role? I don’t see a downside?

My remote teammates are so much happier and just as or more productive. I’m surprised more people are not doing this because Truist has not said anything about location strategy or plans to phaseout remote teammates.

“ the actual policy...it states that moving further away from a Truist facility that meets the distance requirement for being "Remote" will NOT change your "Workstyle.”

Yeah I think this is the difference between what a “policy” states and what’s ACTUALLY happening on the ground. I was told an address change would not necessarily change work style by HR, asked my manager and he said he didn’t think it was right or made sense to have me coming to the office when I’m further away than others on the team who were already remote but outside the radius. I guess he was weighing whether it would be worse to treat us all inconsistently or to change me in workday to remote. Im not mad at being treated the same as people whose houses I literally would drive past on the way in to work if he hadn’t changed me. no one has said anything about it.

You are remote? Guess what? Someone in India can do your exact job. “Can I be laid off for being remote?” Look around you people. Remote means your job can be done by anyone anywhere in the world. And make take a look at AI. Patrick Wood would be a good person to look up. He has been warning both the arrival of technocracy for a very long time.

Our area radius is 40 miles. And I don’t think our managers know they are not supposed to move people to remote when they move outside the radius because they’ve been doing it since October. There was nothing against it in the communications in RTO and the FAQs even specifically said there would not be any difference in promotion opportunities for remote teammates.

Our area it’s if you are more than 50 miles from the location.

How about reading the actual policy if you work there...it clearly states that moving further away from a Truist facility that meets the distance requirement for being "Remote" will NOT change your "Workstyle". Not that hard to find in the PPM.

This radius talk is new to me. Does this radius really exist or is that just talk?

I have first hand knowledge of a teammate hire being blocked because it would be an addition to an all remote team.

Being hired as remote means nothing. Start preparing now for the ultimatum that is coming. I’m anticipating Jan 2024. But if the busy bodies keep it up, it will be sooner.

For my Dept, we never heard of any radius. We were told to RTO in Oct, end of story & we all live outside of 30 miles. This is yet again how inconsistent Trusit is regarding the so called Remote/RTO policy. I use the word "policy" cautiously as the so called policy is nothing more than smoke & mirrors.

Radius is 30 miles in ET. Went from commuting 2-3 days a week downtown to never going in at all, it’s been awesome. I’m close to retirement so if they increase the radius I may just be done.

I thought that it was further than 30 miles . I think I had like 50 in my head. I live 38 miles away and they aren’t letting me be remote

I’m remote so im biased but I don’t think they’ll phase out remote teammates, they haven’t said anything about that. I was literally hired as remote in my offer letter. When I was at wells, they clearly stated that remote in my area were going to be phased out, and even blocked remote people from posting out or getting promoted. To get close to that point would be a multi year process for Truist like it was at WF.

Remote teammates will be phased out once they survey the scene after the mandatory RTO in October.

The reason why remote teammates will be phased out is because of the sickening amount of “it’s not fair” children that I have personally heard statements from or read comments from on these boards.

What's to stop them from increasing the radius whenever they want? I mean, your idea is worth a shot, but if they want to force people back into the office, they'll find a way.

Remote here! For our team it has to be approved by your leadership in your department due to the cost of them paying you mileage if you are required to come in for a meeting etc.

I haven’t noticed anyone doing it to avoid it. It seems to just be the people who fell into that category when RTO started.

We also have a ratio of teammates that we are allowed to hire as remote in case a new hire is outside the miles.
