Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Did I actually like NIKE or just drank the kool-aid as an employee.

After being let go, it dawned on me that I have cared less about NIKE clothing/shoes post high school. I was just buying gear and shoes because I got the discount.

As an elder millennial, I actually rarely see anyone my age wear NIKE outside of a gym. I was a remote employee outside of the Portland/NIKE bubble so wasn't skewed by the proximity of consumer preference. But now it makes sense...

Consumers want comfort/lifestyle shoes... not panda dunks.

I rotate 3 pairs of nikes and some hoodies for at office only. On my time Hoka is my running and comfort sneaker. Zooms, Pegasus and Air just rip my feet apart. Someone missed the boat on what an all around sneaker can be.

If you shop the Van and post on the slack then you are a Nike D rider

I went to Washington Square Mall two weekends ago. As always I was paying attention to the shoes people were wearing. I was stunned at the amount of HOKA shoes I saw people wearing. Have never tried a pair myself but I have to admit I’m now curious.

Almost everyone at Nike is drinking the kool-aid! I was there for 6 years, and I just could not take that stuff anymore. It made feel sick, so I left about 2 years ago. Great decision. Organizations do not care about you. Don't give them your life. Just do your job and nothing else.

I love the low price, cheap quality products that are available at employee discount. Great for gifts.

adidas are actually way more comfortable. I had boxes mine all up when I got the Nike job. but now I am no longer an employee I took them back out. NMDs are sooo comfy. why can't Nike learn from adidas?

Nike as we know it is deceased, the products are garbage & anyone under 30 isn’t wearing it. There is zero strategy in place to change any of that. The barking clown JD will continue to make terrible decisions that further wound the dying animal.

When your kids don’t even want Nike, you know the brand has lost its luster. Discount is useless when they prefer Adidas.

Consumers want to know what they’re paying for when making a purchase, and Nike seems to think the only thing they need to tell the consumer is “but dat swoosh though.” Take a look at any PDP or product release announcement and see if you can figure out what is actually new or different. It’s just Nike tech with little to no explanation of the actual benefit. They sell almost exclusively on the colorway and styling of the shoe, which is going to only work for some subset of actual shoppers. When I wear my Nike gear, heat or not, off campus, the only people who notice or care are other fellow Nike employees. We all are only buying this sh-t because of the discount, and I pity the people I see wearing head to toe swoosh if they aren’t employees.

No wonder the best sellers are AF1s and AJ1s, consumers are familiar with the product and know what to expect, plus the price point is about average-slightly above average. Until Nike starts speaking to actual consumers and not brand loyalists (who will only continue to disappear), they’re going to have a really hard time.

Target and Amazon Basics have been my go-to's PRE NIKE employment.

I see NKE employees, outside the berm - usually at school drop off - wearing the brand's latest/greatest fashion offering. You know, the big boxy coats, sweats and t's with like a thousand logos on them, etc.. These people look absolutely ridiculous/pathetic. Makes for hilarious, behind-their-backs commentary though.

The clothing is also over priced, tacky, and the quality is so bad. I’ve literally gotten better quality from Amazon and Walmart.

This. As a remote employee, I noticed this too. I'm on the east coast and makes sense why NIKE is struggling.
