In layman's terms, can anyone who is tenured here explain what the non-compete agreement says? I get the KIT stuff, but if you are thinking about leaving Nike, are there any issues with working at competitor companies?

I left went straight to Adidas - they sent me a note and told me they were waiving it. I wouldn’t let it scare you off - unless you’re doing something super secret and selling it to your enemies… do what’s right for you and your family.
Noncompetes are already illegal in California.
the ban isn't going to take effect for likely another 5-6 months, assuming it isn't stuck in legal he-l

They can only enforce if they pay you. A judge won’t allow them to bar you from working. If you don’t have a signed agreement you can go to Lulu tomorrow morning if you want.
It depends on your role and if Nike chooses to enforce the non-compete. If you’re laid off reach out to people solutions and ask them to get you validation of Nike’s intentions on enforcement. I was hoping they’d enforce mine because they have to pay your salary for the duration they choose to enforce.
