Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike did this all wrong

According to experts (at least the ones that pop up on Google), layoffs should be done quickly and decisively, to provide survivors with some sense of security, so they can get back to work and morale can start to recover.

Nike has done the exact opposite thing. This has been going on for so long that there is no sense of security, just stress and anger. Leave it to this leadership to fu-k up layoffs, of all things.

They used to do it that way, but everyone whined that they didn’t have enough warning. You can’t win in these situations.

I was laid off Monday and a lot of my cohorts and coworkers all have a bitter taste in their mouth considering they were all also up for the chopping block. How is anyone supposed to trust a company that doesn’t even take accountability or give clear visibility to those who are literally biting their nails trying trying to figure out how they’re going to provide for their family. 16 years. I’ve been in development and Nike does not know how to properly develop software.. aside from the lack of innovation in the last few years. The software itself is so behind. I’m surprised we could even sell shoes.

It's been handled according to the consultant's playbook to efficiently increase attrition rates. No matter how much you complain, nothing will change. Just move on.

The clowns that ran this circus have done irreparable damage to those unfortunate folks left. What should have been a swift reorganization left everyone twisting in the wind for over 4 months. The head clown JD & his cronies can call you “teammates” we all knew he was full of sh*t as literally half the company told him so in the last all hands. But the actions speak much louder than his poorly read ChatGPT generated script. Your performance is meaningless, do the bare minimum and take your talents elsewhere before you get whacked.

I left my last company because they laid off every six to twelve months. What was the point of staying as one was leaving one way or another?

Preach!

Layoffs should be quick and from time of notice to execution shouldn’t last longer than the legal notification requirement. Dragging it out for MONTHS is damaging to peoples’ mental health, morale, and productivity. It also serves as just one more catalyst for a person to think “How many more of these layoffs do I want to endure before I start looking at other orgs that don’t have a current history of laying people off every three years.”

I voluntarily left Nike last year. Layoffs were not THE reason but they were A reason.

Could not have said it any better. Let's have every employee worry for a year whether or not they'll still be employed. Excellent morale booster. Utter sh-t show and so poorly executed.
