Too bad age discrimination is so hard to prove in court

Considering that's exactly what happened here. Too many 50+ people are gone. Way too many. I know they got rid of some younger folks as well, but that was mostly to have plausible deniability if taken to court. I wouldn't even be surprised if some are rehired after the dust settles.

Yes, I'm pi---d off.

Reality check. Simply walk around campus. How many people over the age of 50 do you see? Pay attention next time, it could not be more obvious! It is beyond ridiculous at this point. No way does it come close to mirroring the overall population. It should not be hard to prove right?

All spelling challenged people were let go first. After that were the people who complain too much, followed by those who were only 50% productive, and finally after that the older people who'd accrued way too much PTO were notified of their dismissal through company email to their location on the ski slopes and beaches of their vacation locales. All employees who have a good track record of sc--wing their vendors (literally and figuratively) are still receiving compensation as usual.

Not just age, there is systematic discrimination by gender, race and favoritism across the board. It’s even more agonizing for the people who stayed back have to go through this every day. People promoted from IC to Sr leaders (in GAP, TPM) without any accomplishments is demoralizing. HR should take more responsibility..

Why do you think the severance is so generous?

as part of the separation documentation they provide a list of roles and the ages of people laid off. i think it's mandated.

Hope we will get some data and statistics, like what age group, gender group, ethnicity, etc were let go.

@lee+1sbgO3rG It's cannibal capitalism, the devaluing of our ability and care for work and each other.

Super curious if anyone has actually won an age discrimination claim against Nike and if so, which firm represented them?

Younger people are cheaper and more gullible. Many companies operate this way. If we don’t like it we need to be more like Europe. There the workers have some protection. Here just expendable.

I heard a stat recently that 50% of 50 yr olds get laid off against there will and 80% will never make the same salary again. When I saw this I was like.....nah. After yesterday I am like ......yah. :(

Same happened during CDA.. so saddening. Something I don’t look forward to as I get older. Although… I probably won’t make it past 15 years at this company so there’s that.

Wait but this is the world we all went with it. Can’t complain now. If we want change, then we need to push for regulations and protections like Europe has. Call me socialist, or communist or any other words you can think of. Crony capitalism is not capitalism.
