Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

4x per week and no stocked breakroom

My favorite part is the barren break rooms with no tea or coffee

I've asked CREW about it and they say it's the business unit's responsibility to stock it.

My leadership in ET doesn't stock our floors at all.

"Creature comforts" are just that, for the birds. Not for onsite people

It's a good day when soap is found at the sinks

“Honestly, I see this as a strategic error. The key here is to ask whether you want your employees going outside the building for coffee and networking with others in banking that allow them move move onto one of the many financial institutions in Charlotte, thereby increasing the costs of turnover…?”

This is hitting on a key strategic error I think the banks made from the beginning - moving headquarters to Charlotte with no thought to how labor costs would be impacted. Both banks had a strategic differentiator (with both good and bad impacts) by being the biggest bank in their headquarters city and top option for employees in those areas.

That differentiator is gone and you have to pay big boy rates for talent to recruit away from WF, BoA. It’s no wonder our personnel costs spiraled so high - it’s definitely not due to the heritage teammate pay

To quote the relevant move, "Office Space":

"And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building [redacted]..."

Honestly, I see this as a strategic error. The key here is to ask whether you want your employees going outside the building for coffee and networking with others in banking that allow them move move onto one of the many financial institutions in Charlotte, thereby increasing the costs of turnover, or would it be wise to spend money on coffee and have your employees stay in the building, building relationships with their peers and returning to their desks more quickly. Which is more expensive in the long run?

Oh, the horror! Lazy, overpaid office workers who gripe about having to work a grueling 8-hour shift sitting on their butts while browsing social media on their phones now must endure the added indignity of having to bring their own snacks from home! Sending thoughts and prayers to help you through these dark times!

"Man, I can’t wait to sit at my desk and work 9 hours."

Isn't that what you are paid to do?

The lack of snacks in a break room is obviously not a huge deal. I weep for whatever must be going on in your brain to get triggered by that.

It’s just a comment on how the company thinks of their staff. I wasn’t the OP.

Every office I've been to since 2020 is depressingly empty. Why would they offer supplies? Nobody is going to show up and use them.

Don’t you understand how this works?

Our ‘break-room’ is a kitchen….there is no seating on the floor that would serve as a break-room. So come into the office and sit & eat at your desk. Man, I can’t wait to sit at my desk and work 9 hours.

Free water - bring your own cup. Or a garden hose.

So, I’ll be the first to admit that Truist has become a terrible place to work, and I’d leave if I had somewhere better to go. But, why would anyone expect the Bank to provide you snacks and drinks?

We've never had anything aside from water, I guess other divisions have lots of fat cats splurging on coffee and tea.

Our branches had their water service discontinued. BB&T paid for it. Truist? Nope.

This is just their way of telling you to bring your own food (preferably fish, microwaved uncovered)
