Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Preference

Do you prefer to be laid off in person or zoom? I’ve previously seen people saying that they prefer to be laid off in person, but I can really only assume those people are psychopaths.

After seeing 2017 lay off, I rather be at home if I get the axe.

If I was running the show, I’d invite people to Vegas (business/first class tickets) for a full week of company paid retreat, and celebrations for their accomplishments and exciting future ahead. Will serve top shelf li---r/cocktails served with lobster dinners, and also telling them they have 6 months pay check support, while they look for other opportunities.

What about a Nike type event for all selected ones? TWC, invite a couple of retired athletes telling their stories and how they come back from injury, lots of food, buzz and some inspirational videos. Send us home with swag, severance and a thank you. Final walk around campus with staying colleagues cheering. Instead, we get a KGB style disappearance.

I saw the company who did the mass email - I think it was discord? Supposedly it timed to be sent out at a certain time. Regardless - not sure what I prefer, maybe not prefer it at all and just get an email? It’s not like these people care for us anymore, meaning our HR representative.

A tech company who did layoffs in January created email distro list A & distro list B. A was told they would keep their job. B was told they were laid off and could use a link to setup 1 on 1 time with HR to discuss details in the coming weeks if they had further questions. Not very personal but makes thing much easier in my opinion.

Zoom is much better no matter how prepped you are. Having another human being tell you you are no longer an employee is hard AF and nobody should have to face that.

Why do we need such meetings anyways ? Just do a mass layoff or send the package to their house. I don’t need someone to read me a script. I can read.

Should we turn our cameras on for these meetings?

I think Zoom is better. They walk you to the door like you are a criminal if it is in-person

Nike tries to avoid doing in-person lay-offs anymore. When they do, they use conference rooms without frosted glass, near exits, and security is standing by.

Better for everyone to be remote, I think. Returning equipment is a pain, but whatever.
